Russian missile and drone strike on Ukraine: Air defense neutralizes key threats
In the early hours of August 29, the Russians launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using three guided aerial missiles, Kh-59/69, which were fired from the airspace over the Kursk and Belgorod regions of the Russian Federation, according to the Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk.
Additionally, from the Kursk and Belgorod directions, the invaders launched two more missiles, the type of which is currently being identified. Moreover, Ukraine was attacked by 74 Shahed-131/136 strike drones launched from the areas of Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, and Yeisk.
To repel the air attack, aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare (EW), and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine were deployed.
As a result of the air defense battle, Ukrainian defenders managed to shoot down two guided aerial missiles, Kh-59/69, and 60 Shahed-131/136 strike drones. However, 14 strike drones were lost over Ukrainian territory.
The air defense operated in Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Sumy, and Donetsk.
Attack on Ukraine on August 29
In the early hours of August 29, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using strike drones. Air defense was active in several regions of the country. In Kyiv, explosions were heard several times due to the air defense operation.
There were no direct hits in Kyiv, but debris from downed Shaheds fell in three districts of the city. In the Holosiivskyi and Dniprovskyi districts, debris landed on residential buildings, while in the Desnianskyi district, it hit a private house.
In Cherkasy, debris from downed drones caused a fire at a private enterprise. Additionally, in Kharkiv, part of the city was left without electricity due to enemy shelling.
