Russian massive strike on Ukraine's Kharkiv: Casualties rise, day of mourning declared

In Kharkiv, Russian troops launched a series of strikes on residential areas. 5 people were killed, over 30 were injured or suffered acute shock, according to Ukraine's Prosecutor General and the mayor of the city, Ihor Terekhov.
On August 17, at around 10:50 p.m. Kyiv time, Russian troops launched a missile strike on the Industrialnyi district of Kharkiv.
Russian missile hit near a multi-story residential building, causing acute stress reactions in 11 civilians, including a 13-year-old girl.
It has been preliminarily established that an Iskander-type missile was used.
The next morning, on August 18, at around 5 a.m., 5 drones attacked an apartment building in the same area.
As a result of the Russian strike, the floors between floors partially collapsed, killing 5 people, including a child about 1.5 years old. At least 19 people were injured and suffered shock, including children.
Specialized services and rescuers are working at the scene, and medical assistance is being provided to the victims.
Under the procedural guidance of the Nemyshlianskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Kharkiv, a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the facts of war crimes (Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Day of mourning in Kharkiv
Terekhov declared a day of mourning after the terrorist attack on a residential building. Five people were killed and 20 more were injured, including a six-year-old child.
"My sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who died. Kharkiv remembers every victim. And Kharkiv will stand strong," he said.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, 2 people were rescued from the rubble: a man and a woman.
About 140 rescuers and 39 pieces of equipment, including heavy engineering and special equipment, are working at the site of the Russian strike.
Pyrotechnic, canine, and psychological teams from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine have been deployed.
Russian strike on Kharkiv
On the night of August 18, Kharkiv suffered another massive Russian drone attack. The first explosions were heard at around 4:48 a.m. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, one of the Shaheds hit a high-rise building in the Industrial District, causing a large fire on several floors in 2 entrances at once.
Rescuers worked at the scene as people could have been trapped under the rubble due to the collapse of the floors.
Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, specified that there were adults and children among the victims: as of the morning, 20 people had been injured, including six children aged one to 17.
