Russian group attempting to influence elections discovered in Poland
A Russian group prepared by Russia's GRU (Main Intelligence Directorate) military intelligence was discovered in Poland. Its goal was to influence the Polish elections through the spread of disinformation, states the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs of Poland, Krzysztof Gawkowski, according to PAP.
"Recently, another Russian group, inspired and prepared by Russian military intelligence (GRU), has been discovered. Its goal is to influence the Polish elections. Not only the Polish political scene but also the Polish elections," Gawkowski said.
According to him, the group’s activities involve "spreading disinformation, false information" and "recruiting people to become content creators to destroy the cohesion of the political scene in Poland."
When asked who the members of this group are, he replied, "It’s a Russian group, but it can recruit various people."
"Russia is waging a cyberwar against Poland, not a cold one, but already a hot one. We are the most attacked country in the European Union," the Deputy Prime Minister of Poland stated.
Presidential elections in Poland
The presidential elections in Poland will take place on May 18. The second round may be held in early June if necessary.
It is expected that presidential candidates will be able to submit their nominations until April 4.
Earlier, it was revealed that the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, will run for president from the Civic Coalition ruling party.
According to opinion polls, Trzaskowski is currently the leading candidate for the presidency.
At the same time, the incumbent president, Andrzej Duda, is already serving his second term, so he cannot run for re-election.
