Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov complained about countries considered friendly to Russia, as they refused to refuel his plane due to Western sanctions, according to The Moscow Times.

The Russian official claims that in 2023, during his visit to South Africa to represent Vladimir Putin at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, there was a problem for him to return.

“It turns out that almost all companies providing aviation fuel there are not owned by the country,” added the Russian Foreign Minister.

Lavrov noted that he faced a similar problem during his visit to Brazil. Sanctions forced him to travel to meet Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the plane of Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, as “refueling was impossible.”

Lavrov’s Serbia visit scandal

In 2022, after Russia’s full-scale invasion, Lavrov planned a visit to Serbia.

However, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Montenegro closed their airspace to his plane.

Consequently, Russia’s Foreign Minister decided to cancel the trip.
