Russian forces trapped as Ukraine gains full fire control over Kinburn Spit

Ukrainian Defense Forces have cut off Russian military logistics on the Kinburn Spit (Peninsula) in the Mykolaiv region. The country's Armed Forces report that the peninsula is under complete fire control, while Russian forces are trying to abandon their positions due to shortages of ammunition, fuel, and food, according to an interview with the commander of Operational Tactical Group Odesa, Denys Nosikov, on Radio Svoboda.
Situation on Kinburn Spit
The commander says Ukraine's Defense Forces have complete dominance in this area, while Russian forces are in a deeply defensive position.
The Ukrainian flag was placed on the peninsula using a drone, while Ukrainian troops are not physically present on the spit, but keep it under fire control.
"Whatever the enemy calls itself, it is currently in a very deeply defensive position," Nosikov said.
He added that the main Russian force in this area is the 337th Separate Assault Regiment, which is only called an assault regiment, as there have been no actual assaults.
How Ukraine cut off Russian logistics
Ukrainian forces, in coordination with other units, carried out a series of artillery and air strikes on Russian positions on the spit. After strikes on logistics routes and suffering losses, Russian forces withdrew from the northern and western sections deeper into the peninsula.
According to the commander, Russian forces are facing serious shortages of ammunition, food, and fuel. Ukrainian troops are recording Russian forces' attempts to abandon their positions.
"The day before yesterday, the weather improved somewhat, and they tried to bring in eight vehicles and somehow hide them, bring in something so that they would have at least something. All eight vehicles were destroyed," Denys Nosikov noted.
Unique operation involving a robot
He also said that, for the first time in the history of warfare, Ukraine's Armed Forces delivered and deployed a ground-based robotic system on the Kinburn Spit using an unmanned maritime platform. The system conducted combat operations remotely.
Such technologies are used primarily to save personnel's lives, as the spit and its coastline are mined, the commander said. The arrival of Ukrainian robots by sea also causes panic among Russian troops.
Notably, the Kinburn Spit, on the border between the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, has remained under Russian occupation since 2022.
The Ukrainian Navy has previously explained the peninsula's strategic importance: Russian forces use it to shell southern parts of the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions and strike vessels entering the Dnipro-Buh estuary.
