Russian forces shell Kherson with artillery and attempt to enter the city
Russian forces are shelling the city of Kherson and nearby settlements, while also attempting to advance closer to the Antonivka Road Bridge. The defense forces are resisting the Russian army, and fighting continues, according to military blogger Nikolavskyi Vanek and the head of the Kherson City Military Administration, Roman Mrochko.
According to the blogger, artillery, including the Uhagan multiple rocket launch systems, is firing indiscriminately on the regional center and surrounding area.
The enemy is primarily using barrel artillery from the forests to target coastal settlements from Kherson to Olhivka and Chornobaivka. There are initial reports of fires in residential buildings.
The shelling is connected to the enemy's attempts to capture the area around the Antonivka Road Bridge near the Nayry hotel.
"Right now, assault groups in the area of Oleshky are trying to move closer to Antonivka Road Bridge under the cover of the same artillery fire. Reconnaissance drones are mainly hovering over the stretch from Antonivka Road Bridge to the Konkivskyi Bridge," reported Nikolavskyi Vanek.
He added that the shelling did not come as a surprise to the Defense Forces. Our military is engaging the enemy, and fighting continues.
Roman Mrochko, the head of the Kherson City Military Administration, reported that as a result of the shelling, there have been hits on residential buildings, and civilians have been injured.
"The shelling of Kherson continues! There are civilian casualties! Numerous hits on apartment buildings," he noted.
Russia's offensive on Kherson
On the evening of December 19, the Kherson Regional Military Administration warned residents about the potential for heavy shelling by Russian forces on the regional center and surrounding settlements that night.
Recently, Russian officers were ordered to prepare for an offensive on the right-bank part of the Kherson region. This has sparked panic within the ranks of the occupiers.
Earlier, the ATESH partisans reported that Russia was preparing an assault on Kherson to raise the stakes before Western countries.
The possibility of an enemy offensive on the city was also confirmed by our sources.
