Russian forces lost about 6,000 soldiers killed and wounded in Kursk, Zelenskyy
At a meeting of the Ramstein Ukraine Defense Contact Group, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during the first month of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) operation in Russia's Kursk region, Russia had lost approximately 6,000 soldiers killed and wounded.
As the president noted, today marks exactly one month since the start of the Ukrainian Defense Forces' operation in the Kursk region, from where Russian President Vladimir Putin was preparing to launch a new offensive against Sumy.
"We have turned the tables and are pushing the war into Russia through our counteroffensive. Today, we control an area of more than 1,300 square kilometers in the Kursk region. This includes one hundred settlements," he added.
According to Zelenskyy, Russian troops abandoned a significant portion of the territory upon seeing the approach of Ukrainian forces, while other areas were taken under control by Ukrainian forces during combat.
"So far, during the first month of our operation in the Kursk region, the Russian forces have lost about 6,000 soldiers killed and wounded in Kursk only. And other tens of thousands of Russian troops in other war zones," Zelenskyy noted.
Fighting in Kursk
Since August 6, active fighting has been ongoing in Russia's Kursk region. Ukrainian forces broke through the border and took control of vast territories, including more than a hundred settlements, among which is the city of Sudzha.
In the border areas of the Kursk region, Ukraine has organized a military commandant's office.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv plans to hold these territories until Vladimir Putin agrees to negotiations.
