War criminals from the 76th Guards Air Assault Division of the Russian Federation may be involved in the shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Zaporizhzhia region. It is also known as the Pskov Airborne Division, according to Yurii Belousov, head of the Department for Combating Crimes in the Context of Armed Conflict at the Prosecutor General's Office, on Radio Liberty.

The names of the fallen Ukrainian soldiers have been identified and are being verified. They will be made public later. The Prosecutor General's Office has not yet commented on the whereabouts of the bodies of the fallen defenders.

The Prosecutor's General Office has also identified possible suspects involved in the shooting of Ukrainian prisoners.

"We have reason to believe that the 76th Airborne Division of the Russian Federation is involved in this crime. But we are currently checking this information. This division is already known for war crimes committed in Ukraine, particularly in the Kyiv region," Belousov says.

He notes that the video of the execution of the soldiers was received by the Prosecutor General's Office on December 16, which is probably when the shooting took place. On the same day, law enforcement officers launched an investigation.

Belousov adds that such behavior of the Russian military in the Zaporizhzhia region is systematic. Earlier, it was recorded that the Russians were using Ukrainian prisoners of war as human shields. He suggests that the Russian command can instruct their subordinates, as they know exactly what they are doing.

Russian shooting of Ukrainian prisoners of war

Recently, the Prosecutor General's Office reported another war crime by Russian invaders. It is known that during a military clash with Ukrainian soldiers near the village of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region, the Russian occupiers took three Ukrainian defenders prisoner.

Russians shot Ukrainian prisoners of war. The Prosecutor General's Office opened criminal proceedings over the violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
