Russian drones attack two power substations at night
During another attack by Russian kamikaze drones on Ukraine on the night of February 2, two substations of Ukrenergo were deliberately targeted, Ukrenergo reports.
"On the night of February 2, two substations of National Power Company Ukrenergo were deliberately attacked by Russian UAVs," the statement said.
The company informed that equipment at one of the substations was damaged due to the attack, but the personnel were unharmed.
"Thanks to the installed protection, a fire was avoided," energy officials noted, adding that consumer restoration is underway through backup schemes.
Attack on Ukraine
Russian forces attacked Ukrainian territory with kamikaze drones of the Shahed type from several directions on the night of February 2. In several regions, including Kropyvnytskyi, the air defense system successfully operated. In total, the occupiers launched 25 UAVs, 11 of which were successfully shot down, including three over the Dnipropetrovsk region. At least seven drones did not reach their targets.
Consequences of the attack
The strike targeted critical infrastructure in Dnipropetrovsk. In Kryvyi Rih, the Ukrenergo substation was damaged. Thousands of consumers were left without electricity, and two mines were de-energized. Over 100 miners were trapped underground but brought to the surface. Electricity and heating are expected to be restored by the end of today.
In addition, on the night of February 2, occupiers attacked an infrastructure object in the Kirovohrad region with drones, causing a fire.
