Russian military activity along the border of the Sumy region has recently decreased. However, in the area of the Yunakivka community, the Russian army continues to attack Ukrainian positions using small infantry groups, according to Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

"In some areas, enemy activity is noticeable, but overall, recently, within the defense sectors held by units of the State Border Guard Service in the Sumy region, we have observed a certain decline in the enemy's efforts to advance," Demchenko noted.

However, this decline in enemy activity is not recorded across all sectors.

Specifically, in the Yunakivka community, the enemy continues to deploy infantry groups to assault the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Russian offensive and the situation in the Sumy region

As previously reported, Russian forces have been trying to expand their control east of Sumy, but Ukrainian defenders continue to hold the settlements.

According to Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russia attempted to launch another large-scale offensive on the Ukrainian front in 2026. However, the enemy failed to achieve any of its goals, despite holding a nearly two-to-one advantage in manpower and equipment.

While the Russian army previously conducted active offensive operations across 13 operational directions, that number has now dropped to a maximum of 6 or 7.

The current ratio of Ukrainian assault operations to Russian assault operations is approximately 40:60. Furthermore, the pace of Russian advances has slowed by more than half.

Syrskyi also reported that Russian troops intend to expand their offensive operations into the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions, while also attempting to establish a buffer zone in Ukraine's northern regions.
