Russian authorities begin second wave of seizing property of Ukrainians who fled occupation - NRC
Russians in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine have begun a new wave of identifying so-called ownerless property. This refers to housing left behind by Ukrainians who have fled the occupation, reports the National Resistance Center (NRC).
To seize the property of Ukrainians who have left the region due to occupation or to blackmail them into returning, Russian authorities are creating lists of such housing.
They threaten to confiscate the property if the documents are not re-registered according to the laws of the Russian Federation.
"Communal service workers and heads of homeowners associations (HOAs) are expected to assist in this process by providing lists of empty apartments or those occupied by non-owners for inspection," the report states.
Additionally, the National Resistance Center has urged people to continue reporting those who work for the Russian authorities, with anonymity guaranteed for such reports.
