Russian attack on Ukraine: Everything known about strikes on Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv and other cities

During the night and morning of January 13, Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine using drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and other cities were hit, causing fires, destruction, and other damage. Below is everything known so far.

What Russians used to attack
According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, enemy drones were detected throughout the night in various regions of Ukraine. In addition, air raid alerts were issued three times overnight in Kyiv and several other areas.
After the first alert, Russians struck the suburbs of Kharkiv with ballistic missiles. Following the second alert, enemy missiles were heading toward Kyiv, with explosions heard in the capital. Later, Russians attacked Kharkiv with Shahed drones. Odesa was also hit by drones.
In the morning, about an hour after the third alert in the capital, approximately 30 Russian drones were detected over Ukraine. There was also a threat of ballistic missile use against the southern and eastern regions.
From 07:19 a.m. local time, cruise missiles began to be detected over Ukraine, with some of them heading toward Kyiv. At the same time, drones were recorded in the region, and air defense systems were operating in the capital.
All about the consequences of the Russian attack overnight and in the morning
DTEK said Russians attacked its thermal power plant. As a result of the strike, equipment at the power plant was severely damaged.
"This is already the eighth massive attack on the company's thermal power plants since October 2025. Overall, since the start of the full-scale invasion, DTEK thermal power plants have been attacked by the enemy more than 220 times. As a result, 59 power plant workers were injured, and four were killed," the company added.
Kyiv and the region
During overnight strikes on Kyiv, power outages were reported in the city. Online reports also said that Irpin, Bucha, and Hostomel (Kyiv region) were almost completely left without electricity.
In the morning, when cruise missiles were detected heading toward Kyiv and explosions were heard, emergency power outages were introduced in the capital and parts of the region.
Brovary Mayor Ivan Sapozhko also wrote that as of 07:30 a.m. local time, a missile fragment was recorded falling in an open area in the village of Trebukhiv in the Kyiv region.
Kharkiv and suburbs
According to Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov, Russians hit a children's sanatorium in the Shevchenkivskyi district of the city with a Shahed drone overnight. A fire broke out at the attack site.
The suburbs of Kharkiv suffered even more, as the enemy used not only drones but also ballistic missiles. As a result of the attack, a Nova Poshta terminal (Ukraine's largest private postal and logistics company) was destroyed.
"Last night, Russia carried out a massive strike on the territory of a postal terminal in the suburbs of Kharkiv. Buildings were destroyed, and several fires broke out over a total area of about 500 square meters," the State Emergency Service said.
Rescuers reported that four people were killed and six others injured as a result of the massive attack. At the same time, State Emergency Service personnel managed to rescue 30 people, two of whom were pulled from under the rubble of the destroyed building.

"Emergency rescue operations and firefighting are currently ongoing. State Emergency Service units are working at the site under the constant threat of renewed enemy attack," rescuers added.
Odesa
As a result of the overnight drone attack on Odesa, energy facilities, apartment buildings, and social infrastructure facilities were damaged in the city. In particular, a hospital, a kindergarten, a Luna Park, a fitness center, and private vehicles.

In addition, according to regional administration head Oleh Kiper, six people were injured.
"Among the injured are six people aged 35 to 68. Two with moderate injuries were hospitalized, while four others received medical assistance at the scene. All are under medical supervision. Operational resilience centers have been deployed to assist residents of the damaged buildings," he said.
Kryvyi Rih and Dnipropetrovsk region
According to the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Hanzha, Russians attacked Kryvyi Rih with drones on the evening of January 12. There were reportedly no consequences.
However, overnight, the enemy launched a combined attack, targeting the Zelenodolsk community.
"A fire broke out. The infrastructure was damaged. In addition, two private houses and a gas pipeline were damaged. A 69-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized in moderate condition," he said.
The State Emergency Service also confirmed the attack on the region and reported the following casualties and damage:

In the Kryvyi Rih and Synelnykove districts, a woman and a man were injured and hospitalized.

"All fires have been extinguished. A total of 45 rescuers and 13 units of equipment were involved in eliminating the consequences," rescuers summarized.
Zhytomyr region
According to the head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Bunechko, Russians continue to attack critical infrastructure in the region. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out.
"Last night, several facilities in the Korosten and Zviahel districts came under attack. There is currently no information about fatalities or injuries. Rescuers are working to localize and extinguish the fire that broke out at the site of the enemy strike. Specialized services are inspecting the area for explosive hazards," he said.
