Russia launched another missile and drone attack on Ukraine during the night of July 27, targeting a port and an airfield. RBC-Ukraine gathered all the information about the consequences of the nighttime strikes on Ukraine.

Air raid sirens were activated in the southern, eastern, central, and parts of the northern regions of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Air Force had warned about the threat of missile strikes in the south of Ukraine, while the central regions faced the danger of drone attacks.

Air defense operations

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched two Kalibr cruise missiles from a submarine in the Black Sea. Unfortunately, the anti-aircraft defense systems failed to intercept the Russian missiles and they hit the port in the Odesa region.

The occupiers launched eight Iranian-made kamikaze drones from the southeast direction. The Ukrainian Air Defense successfully neutralized all the drones in the Khmelnytskyi, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk regions.

Odesa region

During the night, two Russian cruise missiles struck the port infrastructure in the Odesa region. Military and local authorities confirmed damage to the equipment at one of the cargo terminals, as well as a security building and vehicles.

A 43-year-old security guard was killed in the attack. Law enforcement has initiated a criminal case for violations of laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder (Article 438 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Khmelnytskyi region

Yurii Ihnat, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Force, said that the occupiers attempted to attack an airfield in Starokostiantyniv in the Khmelnytskyi region.

"The airfield in Starokostiantyniv is once again keeping the occupiers restless. Well, not the airfield itself, but our military pilots. We all see those beautiful explosions happening in the occupied territories. That's why this airfield is under the Russians' spotlight today," said Ihnat.

Fortunately, all the enemy drones were shot down, and the Russians did not achieve their objectives.

Not the first attack

Yesterday evening, an air raid was declared all over Ukraine, and a series of explosions occurred in several regions, which were related to air defense operations.

It later became known that Russia launched 36 missiles from Tu-95MS strategic bombers. Additionally, the occupiers deployed MiG-31K interceptors and launched 4 more Kh-47 Kinzhal missiles toward the Khmelnytskyi region, targeting the airfield in Starokostiantyniv.

Ukrainian defenders destroyed 33 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles and Kinzhal missiles. Previously, these missiles were only intercepted over the Kyiv region.

Ukrainian air defense used to be unable to intercept the hypersonic Kinzhal missiles. However, thanks to the Patriot surface-to-air missile system, this has now become possible.
