Russian atrocities in Ukraine mirror past actions in Chechnya and beyond – Military
Russian occupiers are committing war crimes in Ukraine. Similar atrocities were carried out by the Russians in Chechnya and other countries where they fought, states Abdul-Hakim Shishani, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic Ichkeria in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
"We saw the atrocities that Russians are committing in Ukraine in Chechnya: killing civilians, bombing schools and hospitals, hundreds of mass graves where people were killed and buried," he said.
The military leader emphasized that during the wars in Chechnya, there was no opportunity to document the crimes committed by the Russians. In his opinion, out of a population of one million in Chechnya, a third was killed.
"History shows that it is in their blood. They can't live without blood, without victims, without killing. They like it, you can see it. It is in their nature. They cannot do otherwise," said Abdul-Hakim Shishani.
He believes that the only way to stop Russian crimes is through the collapse of the Russian Federation. Otherwise, the scenarios in Chechnya and Ukraine will repeat themselves.
"Chechnya, Georgia, Syria, Ukraine. Where are they not involved? Afghanistan, Libya, Africa. Wherever they are, there are crimes, murders, violence," said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic Ichkeria.
Punishing Russia for war crimes
Earlier, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported that Ukraine records 150 war crimes daily, committed by Russian occupiers. In fact, every 10 minutes, Russia commits a crime against Ukraine.
In September 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia had committed 137,000 war crimes in Ukraine.
Ukraine is working on establishing a special tribunal to hold Russia accountable for its invasion. The aim is to bring the top political and military leadership of Russia to justice.
