Russian troops attempted to carry out assaults under the cover of fog on March 17–18 in the most critical directions of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. These actions resulted in massive losses for the enemy, according to the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert "Madyar" Brovdi.

He noted that the sharp change in weather on March 17–18, along with the planned start of the spring-summer campaign, pushed Russian troops to resume assaults in the Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, and Huliaipole directions.

Russian assault groups began their offensive on the night of March 16–17 in foggy conditions, but were met by Ukrainian drones. As a result, around 100 Russian soldiers were neutralized before midnight. At dawn, the enemy deployed infantry supported by motorcycles and armored vehicles across approximately ten sections of the front. In total, 292 Russian soldiers were killed, and another 221 were wounded.

According to Madyar, the fog persisted into the night of March 18, and Russian troops continued their assaults. Enemy losses again reached into the hundreds — 141 killed and 136 wounded.

"900 in a day and a half is a new benchmark… The defenders on the ground were unmatched — the enemy failed to break through any sector along this stretch over that time," Madyar emphasized.

Russia’s spring offensive was disrupted

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainian defenders had disrupted a strategic offensive operation planned by Russia for March.

According to the President, although enemy assaults are still ongoing, their intensity and scale are not what the Russian army had planned or promised to its political leadership.
