Urban battles between Russian forces and Ukraine's Armed Forces are ongoing in Kurakhove. The city is in a semi-destroyed state, states the spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group of Troops, Viktor Trehubov, according to Suspilne Donbas.

What preceded

This morning, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed the alleged "liberation" of the Ukrainian city of Kurakhove, the largest settlement in the southwestern part of the Donetsk region.

What the Armed Forces of Ukraine say

"Analyzing the percentage of city control during battles is impossible. However, I can note that as of this morning, fighting was still ongoing within the city limits, so the enemy's statements about capturing the city are clearly premature," said Viktor Trehubov.

Meanwhile, the Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group reported this morning that the Russian army is conducting assault operations in Kurakhove's urban area. Efforts are underway to detect and destroy enemy assault groups.

Situation in Kurakhove

Recent social media claimed Ukrainian troops had been encircled near the settlements of Uspenivka and Trudove, close to Kurakhove. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied this information, stating that the troops had been withdrawn.

We also reported that the Russian troops attempted to advance near Kurakhove using aviation.

Additionally, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russian losses on the frontlines in November and December were at record levels, with the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions remaining the most intense hotspots.
