Russian army significantly intensifies shelling of Sudzha in Kursk region - Ukrainian military command
Russian forces have recently intensified shelling of Sudzha in the Kursk region. Adjacent villages are also under attack, states Oleksii Dmitrashkivskyi, a press officer of the temporary military commandant's office in Russia, during a national telethon live broadcast.
"The civilian population is mostly staying at home or in a shelter, as the enemy has greatly intensified shelling of the town of Sudzha and the surrounding villages. Many villages no longer exist," Dmitrashkivskyi explained.
He added that since the beginning of the Ukrainian armed forces' operation in the Kursk region, 36 residents of Sudzha have been killed as a result of Russian shelling. Another 100 people have sustained medium to severe injuries.
The press officer specified that the Russian forces are using the S-300 air defense system for shelling Sudzha. Additionally, the enemy is heavily using FPV drones.
According to intelligence, the Russian army has the following in the region:
- 12,000 FPV drones;
- around 800 Lantsets;
- 2,500 Mavic drones.
Ukrainian attacks in the Kursk region
A few days ago, Andrii Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, reported that Ukrainian defenders attacked Russian forces in several directions in the Kursk region, catching the enemy by surprise.
Ukrainian defenders have already made some progress in the region.
At the same time, on January 7th, it became known that Ukrainian defenders attacked the command post of the 810th Brigade of the Russian Marine Corps.
