Russian army shows most activity in Pokrovsk direction
In Ukraine, there were 97 combat engagements on the frontlines throughout July 28, with reports continuing into the evening. Russian forces were most active in the Pokrovsk direction, where they suffered significant losses, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The military command provided an operational update on the situation at the front as of 22:00 on July 28.
Russian shelling
Over the day, Russian forces launched two missiles and conducted 66 airstrikes on Ukrainian territory, deploying 105 guided bombs.
The Russian army also used 611 kamikaze drones and carried out more than 3,400 shellings targeting Ukrainian Armed Forces positions and civilian areas.
Frontline situation
The General Staff noted that the Ukrainian Defense Forces continued to resolutely repel the invaders' attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory, delivering effective fire damage and exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defensive positions near Hlyboke and Vovchansk four times, with one engagement ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian army launched an attack near Novoosynove, and the battle is still ongoing. The situation remains under the control of our forces, according to the report.
In the Lyman direction, during the day, the Russian army launched 13 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Novoserhiivka, Makiivka, Terni, Novosadove, and Torske. Seven attacks were repelled, while six are ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, during seven combat engagements, Ukrainian forces stopped six enemy attacks in the areas of Ivano-Dariivka and Spirne. One battle is still continuing.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy carried out seven offensive actions near Vasiukivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Hryhorivka. Defense forces repelled six attacks, with one still ongoing in the Chasiv Yar area.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces launched 15 attacks on Ukrainian forces near Zalizne, New York, and Pivnichne. Twelve battles have concluded, while three are still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, the Russian army has attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses 36 times near the settlements of Tymofiivka, Zelenе Pole, Novooleksandrivka, Ivanivka, Zhelanne, Novoselivka Persha, Kalynove, and Yasnobrodivka.
It is noted that Ukrainian defenders repelled 23 attacks, with 13 still continuing.
"According to updated information, today in this direction, 206 Russian soldiers were neutralized, 56 of them irreversibly. Also destroyed were a tank, a D-30 howitzer, two UAVs of various types, and three vehicles. Additionally, two tanks, six artillery systems, and one vehicle were damaged," the General Staff stated.
In the Kurakhove direction, the enemy carried out four attacks on Ukrainian positions near Krasnohorivka and Heorhiivka. Three attacks were repelled, and one is still ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy carried out offensive actions towards Konstantynivka, with two battles still ongoing.
In the Hulyaipole direction, Ukrainian units repelled two enemy attacks near Hulyaipole, with one engagement currently continuing.
In the Orikhiv direction, the Russian army launched three assaults near Mala Tokmachka and Novoandriivka. As a result of the battles, the occupiers suffered defeat.
In the Prydniprovsk direction, a Russian attack on Ukrainian positions on the left bank of the Dnipro also failed.
The military command added that the situation in other areas remains relatively unchanged.
Earlier in the General Staff's report for July 28, it was noted that the most active sections of the front remain in the Pokrovsk and Toretsk directions.
Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently stated that Ukraine needs to strengthen its positions against the Russian army in the Pokrovsk direction. According to him, this section of the front is currently the primary focus for the enemy.
