The Russian troops are preparing new assaults on two fronts, specifically in the Zaporizhzhia region, states the spokesperson for the Defense Forces of the South, Vladyslav Voloshyn, during a national telethon broadcast.
According to him, the enemy continues to conduct active aerial and other reconnaissance in the Orikhiv and Huliaipole directions.
"They are preparing assault groups to intensify assault actions and attacks in the near future, including strikes on civilian infrastructure and settlements near the line of combat engagement," the spokesperson noted.
Situation in Zaporizhzhia region
Reports have been circulating since October about Russian forces attempting to advance in the Zaporizhzhia region to capture more Ukrainian territory. At that time, the Ukrainian command observed the enemy preparing for new assaults, specifically in the Orikhiv and Robotyne directions of Zaporizhzhia.
To thwart these plans, Ukrainian forces have been striking important Russian military targets in the region. On December 27, it became known that the Defense Forces had eliminated three Russian army officers in Zaporizhzhia. The Russian military had gathered for a meeting and were neutralized by HIMARS.
