Russian army losses in Ukraine war reached 500,000 - NATO chief

This year, the Russian army has made progress on the front, but at a high cost. Losses in killed and wounded since the beginning of the war amount to 500,000, according to the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
“Well, clearly, Ukraine is fighting this war of self-defense, and as you know, I'm absolutely impressed by what Ukraine is doing. They have shown with courage, they have shown also with creativity, they can push back the Russian forces,” he said.
According to him, the situation on the battlefield is undoubtedly not easy. The Ukrainian army, on the one hand, has occupied a part of the Kursk region in Russia, and the Russians have made some progress on the battlefield this year.
“But that progress, don't forget, has been costly. Recent estimates I am getting and probably you also, Russian losses run at about 1,000 killed or wounded a day, 1,000 killed or wounded a day, and that is on top of the total of 500,000 already killed or wounded,” Rutte said.
The NATO Secretary General announced an increase in aid to Ukraine by billions. In October, the leaders will meet at Ramstein to discuss Ukraine's needs and coordinate further support.
Russia's losses in the war against Ukraine
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the total combat losses of Russian troops in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war amount to about 654,430 people, including 1,370 soldiers over the past day.
In August, British intelligence reported that Russia had suffered the largest losses at the front in recent months. In July, the average daily Russian losses decreased slightly, from a maximum of 1,262 soldiers per day in May to 1,140 in July.
British agency analyzed that it would take Russia about five years to capture four regions of Ukraine. In this case, Russian troop losses could reach 1.8 million soldiers.
