Russia needs five years to capture four regions of Ukraine - British General
Russia will need about five years to capture four regions of Ukraine. In doing so, the losses of the Russian army could amount to 1.8 million soldiers, according to the new British Army chief, General Sir Roly Walker.
The General made the corresponding statement during the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) Land Warfare Conference.
"If they carry on as they are, it will probably take the Russians five years to grind their way to their minimum objectives of the four oblasts," Walker said, referring to the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
According to the chief's estimates, at the current rate of casualties, Russia could lose between 1.5 to 1.8 million soldiers, as well as "untold billions" in destroyed equipment.
"There has got to be more things for Russia to worry about than losing the best part of 1.5 to 1.8 million people for a slice of Ukraine," the General added.
Russia's losses in the war
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has lost over 570,000 soldiers in Ukraine, as well as thousands of pieces of equipment. Over the past day, the Defense Forces have destroyed 1,230 Russian soldiers.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, previously stated that Russian losses at the front exceed Ukrainian ones. According to him, the number of Russian troops in Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion was 100,000, and now it is 520,000.
He noted that Russia wants to increase the number of troops in Ukraine to 690,000.
