Search and rescue operations are continuing in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region, following a massive Russian airstrike on November 2. The death toll has risen, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Tragedy in Komyshuvakha

Zelenskyy said that search and rescue operations have been underway for the third consecutive day at the site of the Russian strike on a school in the settlement of Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region.

"The Russians used nine aerial bombs. They first struck people who had come to receive humanitarian aid, and then first responders and police officers who arrived at the scene," Zelenskyy said.

The operation is being carried out under the constant threat of further Russian attacks.

"As of now, 40 people have been reported killed. Unfortunately, some bodies have not yet been identified. My condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed. More than 30 people may still be under the rubble," the president added.

International reaction

Zelenskyy noted that the international community's response to this "insane attack" has been extremely limited.

"But it, like thousands upon thousands of other war crimes Russia has committed against Ukraine and Ukrainians, demands a strong response. Evil always goes further if it is left unanswered," he said.

The president is counting on a response from the international community, including timely support for Ukraine in the form of air defense systems.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the death toll from the Russian strike on Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region, on Monday, November 2, had risen to 37 people.

Russia struck Komyshuvakha twice with aerial bombs. The targets included a school where humanitarian aid was being distributed and a shelter.

In addition, on November 3, it was reported that 58 people were missing in Komyshuvakha.
