Defense forces successfully repelled an enemy attack on Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. Prisoners were captured, a civilian was evacuated, and valuable intelligence was obtained as a result of the operation, according to the 151st Separate Reconnaissance Battalion of the Joint Forces Group.
“During the enemy’s attempt to break through defenses near Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, the reconnaissance battalion repelled the attack in an organized manner," the military said.
The defenders emphasized that as a result of the operation, the prisoners were taken, a civilian was evacuated, and intelligence was gathered that enabled the destruction of a significant group of Russian soldiers.
"Systematic coordination among Joint Forces units deprives the enemy of initiative, resources, and the ability to advance," the Ukrainian Armed Forces said.
Situation in Kupiansk
Recently, Russian troops trapped their own 122nd motorized rifle regiment in the Kupiansk area. While Russian documents claim the territory is under control, fighting is still ongoing.
According to a partisan agent inside the 122nd Russian regiment, the unit faced a critical situation in the Kupiansk direction. To report successes to Moscow more quickly, the regiment’s command falsely claimed to have taken control of several positions in the town and surrounding areas.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Armed Forces refuted claims by Valery Gerasimov that Russian troops had captured Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. This settlement in the Kharkiv region remains under Ukrainian control and is not directly on the frontline.
Kupiansk itself remains under the control of Ukrainian defenders. After a December operation, the city was cleared of Russian forces, with several hundred troops encircled and destroyed by Ukrainian units. Ukrainian defenders have established control over the Kupiansk City Council building.
According to the Ukrainian command, all Russian attempts to advance toward Kupiansk have resulted in heavy losses. The city continues to remain under Ukrainian control.
