Russia decided not to withdraw its troops from the Donetsk region. This decision was made despite a successful offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, Bloomberg reports.

According to an anonymous source, the Russian military command decided not to redeploy forces from the front line in Donbas to help repel the Ukrainian assault near Kursk.

Bloomberg says that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in the Kursk region took the Kremlin by surprise.

The agency notes that although some Russian forces were withdrawn from Ukraine after the invasion of the Kursk region, it is unlikely that they were troops from the front line.

Background

Ukrainian defenders have been pushing Russians out of certain areas of the Kursk region for weeks. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are successfully advancing deep into Russia and replenishing their exchange fund with prisoners.

Today, August 22, the Ukrainian military used HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems in the Kursk region. The weapons were used, in particular, to destroy bridges.

Russian occupiers do not care much about the lives and safety of Russian civilians. Today, the Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk, said that during all this time, Russia has not asked for a humanitarian corridor to evacuate people from the Kursk region.

According to Vereshchuk, the Kremlin has not asked either Ukraine or the Red Cross.

Meanwhile, as early as August 14, Ukraine declared its readiness to open humanitarian corridors in the Kursk region. They would allow Russian civilians to be evacuated to Sumy.
