Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of October 28
Russian invaders attempted to regain lost ground near Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region. However, the occupiers were not successful, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
During the day, there were 48 armed clashes. In total, the enemy launched five missile strikes and 18 airstrikes, conducted 20 shelling attacks with multiple rocket launchers on the positions of our forces and residential areas.
There are civilian casualties. Private residential homes and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged and destroyed.
Additionally, Russian occupiers launched another missile strike on Ukraine, using four ground-based Iskander-K cruise missiles. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed three of these cruise missiles.
The frontline situation
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation has seen no significant changes. There are no signs of the formation of advancing enemy groups. Identified units of the armed forces of Belarus continue to carry out tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from Russian territory, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border of Ukraine.
Approximately 10 populated areas, including Senkivka in the Chernihiv region, Zaruchke and Turiya in the Sumy region, and Kozacha Lopan, Staritsya, and Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful storming actions in the areas of the populated places Senkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, where our defenders repelled five enemy attacks. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Kamyanka, Krasne Pershe, Senkivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region, experienced artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (storming) actions but continued troop redeployment. They shelled more than 10 populated areas with artillery and mortars, including Makiivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Verkhniokamianske, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to regain lost positions in the areas of Klishchiivka and Andriivka, where our defenders repelled six enemy attacks. Approximately 20 populated areas, including Minkivka, Orihovo-Vasylivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region, were exposed to artillery and mortar fire.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces repelled 16 enemy attacks in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted an airstrike in the Katerynivka area. Approximately 10 populated areas in the Donetsk region, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, and Pobieda, came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy, with aviation support, conducted unsuccessful storming actions near Staromykhailivka and south of Zolota Niva in the Donetsk region. Around 10 populated areas, including Vodyane, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy attempted to regain lost ground near Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region but was unsuccessful. Approximately 30 populated areas, including Malynivka, Huliipilske, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, and Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region, were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the occupiers conducted airstrikes in the areas of Berislav, Novoberislav, Kozatske, Odradokamianka, Tyahynka, and Ivanivka in the Kherson region. The city of Kherson also experienced enemy artillery shelling.
Offensive by Ukrainian Armed Forces
Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction and carry out offensive (assault) actions in the Bakhmut direction. They inflict casualties on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, and wear down the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces carried out five strikes on areas where enemy personnel, equipment, and military vehicles were concentrated.
Missile troops units struck the area where enemy personnel, equipment, military vehicles, and artillery assets were concentrated.
