Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of October 12

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to maintain defensive positions in the east and south of Ukraine, conduct offensive operations in the Melitopol direction, and make advances in the Bakhmut direction. They are engaged in the gradual destruction of the enemy, liberating temporarily occupied territories, and consolidating their positions on achieved frontlines, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
During the past day, there were 95 combat engagements. Additionally, due to a missile strike by Russian terrorist forces on a school in the town of Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region, regrettably, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential houses and other civilian infrastructure have also suffered damage. Furthermore, on the night of October 12, the Russian Federation carried out another aerial strike on Ukraine, employing UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type. Information regarding the consequences of this terrorist attack is currently being clarified. In total, the enemy launched 2 missiles and 72 aerial strikes and conducted 67 barrages using multiple rocket launch systems on the positions of our forces and populated areas.
Aerial strikes have affected the following locations: Synkivka, Petropavlivka, and Piskhane in the Kharkiv region; Serebrianske Lisnytstvo and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; and Torske, Siversk, Spirne, Vasyukivka, Minkivka, Kyndrativka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Stupochi, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Dyliivka, Keramik, Orlivka, Lastochkyne, Avdiivka, Maryinka, Novomykhailivka, and Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region; Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region; and Novoraisk, Zmiivka, Kozatske, and Odradokamianka in the Kherson region.
Over 100 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions have been subjected to artillery fire.
The frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively stable.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas and actively conducts sabotage operations with the aim of preventing the redeployment of Ukrainian forces to critical areas. The enemy is increasing the density of mines and explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled over 10 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy's advances in the areas of Makiivka in the Luhansk region and the Torske and Serebrianske Lisnytstvo in the Donetsk region. Here, Ukrainian defenders repelled over 15 enemy attacks.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled enemy attacks in the area of the settlement of Andriivka in the Donetsk region. Simultaneously, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue offensive operations to the south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, achieving success in the areas to the east of Klishchiivka and east of Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders maintain a strong defense, repelling over 10 enemy attacks in the area of Avdiivka and another 10 attacks to the east of Stepove, southeast of Severne, and south of Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled over 10 enemy attacks in the areas of Maryinka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive operations in the areas to the south of Zolota Nyva and southeast of Vuhledar in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian defenders are holding back the enemy in the area of the settlement of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces are engaged in counter-battery combat, destroying enemy depots and successfully targeting the enemy's rear areas.
Offensive by Ukrainian Armed Forces
Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction. They have improved their tactical positions in the area west of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Our soldiers are inflicting losses on the occupying forces in terms of personnel and equipment, and they are wearing down the enemy.
During the past day, the aviation of the defense forces carried out 12 strikes on areas where the enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment were concentrated.
Enemy losses
Units of missile troops struck the area where the enemy's personnel, weaponry, and military equipment were concentrated, destroying 9 artillery pieces, an ammunition depot, and an enemy radar station.
It should be noted that the total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amounts to 283,900 military personnel.
