Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of October 7

The operational situation on the eastern and southern fronts of Ukraine remains complex. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (ZSU) continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol and conduct assault actions in the Bakhmut directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
During the day, there were 50 clashes between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the occupiers. The enemy conducted 8 missile strikes and 25 airstrikes, as well as fired 30 volleys from multiple rocket launchers at the positions of our troops and populated areas.
At night, the occupiers once again launched missile strikes on civilian objects of port infrastructure in the Odesa region, as well as in the central part of the city of Myrgorod in the Poltava region.
The frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant signs of the enemy forming offensive groups. Identified units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are carrying out tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, continues shelling of populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.
The enemy conducted an airstrike in the vicinity of the settlement of Stepne in the Sumy region. Artillery and mortar shelling targeted over 15 populated areas, including Wolfine, Pysarivka, Hrabovske, and Porozok in the Sumy region, as well as Udy, Pletenivka, and Milove in the Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled 10 enemy attacks near Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region. The adversary conducted airstrikes in the areas of Kupiansk, Petropavlivka, Kurylivka, and Pishchane in the Kharkiv region.
More than 10 populated areas, including Kyslivka, Kotliarivka, Tabaivka, Krokhmalne, and Pishchane in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled 5 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Makiivka in the Luhansk region. The adversary conducted airstrikes near Novoliubivka, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Katerynivka, Spirne in the Donetsk region.
Over 10 populated areas were affected by artillery and mortar fire, including Nevske and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, as well as Svirne and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the occupiers conducted aviation strikes near Klishchiivka and New York in the Donetsk region. More than 15 populated areas, including Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Kurdiumivka, Dachne, Pivnichne, and Zalizne in the Donetsk region, were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, the Defense Forces successfully repelled all enemy attacks near Avdiivka and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region. More than 10 populated areas, including Sukha Balka, Novobakhmutivka, Keramik, Avdiivka, Opytne, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, experienced enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Maryinka direction, over the course of the day, the Defense Forces successfully repelled 12 enemy attacks in the areas of Maryinka, Krasnohorivka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted an aviation strike in the Maryinka area of the Donetsk region.
Approximately 10 populated areas, including Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka, Antonivka, and Katerynivka in the Donetsk region, were under enemy fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, our defenders repelled 8 enemy attacks in the area of Vodiane in the Donetsk region, amidst heavy artillery fire and aviation strikes. The enemy unsuccessfully attempted to regain lost ground to the east of Zolota Niva in the Donetsk region.
In the Donetsk region, the occupiers carried out aviation strikes near Volodyne. Over 10 populated areas, including Vodiane, Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Zolota Niva, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the invaders conducted an aviation strike near Pryiutne in the Zaporizhzhia region. Approximately 30 populated areas, including Orikhiv, Novodanylivka, Robotyne, Novoandriivka, Mali Shcherbaky, and Lobkove in the Zaporizhzhia region, were shelled with artillery and mortar fire.
In the Kherson direction, enemy artillery and mortar fire targeted Zolota Balka, Nechaieve, Kherson, and Shyroka Balka in the Kherson region.
Enemy losses
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, conduct offensive (assault) actions in the Bakhmut direction, inflict losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, and wear down the enemy along the entire front line.
During the day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out 8 strikes on areas with the concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment and 5 strikes on the enemy's air defense missile systems.
Units of the missile forces damaged the enemy's artillery piece, the area with the concentration of personnel, and the electronic warfare station.
Crimes of Russia
According to the General Staff, Russian occupiers continue to place military hospitals in buildings with civilians. For example, in the city of Lysychansk in the Luhansk region, Russian occupation forces have set up a military hospital in a multi-apartment building where civilians currently reside.
Additionally, in the village of Nyzhni Sirohozy in the Kherson region, occupiers have moved sick civilians from the hospital to nearby private houses, with the intention of vacating hospital wards for the admission of wounded servicemen from the occupation forces.
