Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of October 5

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct defensive operations in the east and south of Ukraine, as well as offensive operations in the Melitopol direction and offensive actions in the Bakhmut direction. Over the past day, there have been 57 combat clashes, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
The enemy carried out 5 missile strikes and 60 aerial strikes, launching 47 attacks from multiple launch rocket systems against both our military positions and civilian objects within our country.
Regrettably, due to these Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential homes and other civilian infrastructure have also suffered damage and destruction.
Furthermore, during the night, the occupiers attacked Ukraine, deploying 29 offensive UAVs of the Shahed-136/131 type. Our air defense systems successfully neutralized 24 of the enemy's Shahed drones.
Locations subjected to aerial strikes include: Synkivka, Podoly in the Kharkiv region; Kuzemivka, Novoselivske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Siversk, Spirne, Khromove, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Klishiivka, Toretsk, Oleksandro-Shultsine, Avdiivka, Maryinka, Novomykhailivka, Zolota Niva, Urozhaine, Staromayorske in the Donetsk region; Mala Tokmachka, Orihiv, Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region; Kozatske, Mykolaivka, Olihivka in the Kherson region.
Over 140 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions found themselves under artillery fire.
The frontline situation
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group North in the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, actively conducts sabotage activities to prevent the movement of our forces to critical directions, and increases the density of minefield obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Khortytsia in the Kupiansk direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack in the area north of Zybyne in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 7 enemy attacks in areas east of Makiivka in the Luhansk region and northwest of Dybrova in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to regain lost ground in the areas of the settlements of Hryhorivka, Klishchivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive actions south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, inflicting casualties on the enemy in personnel and equipment, and consolidating their positions along the achieved frontlines.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Tavria in the Avdiivka and Maryinka directions, the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to regain lost ground in the Avdiivka area in the Donetsk region and improve their tactical position in the Lastochkyne area in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted more than 15 unsuccessful attacks in the areas of Maryinka and Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Zolota Niva and Rivnopil in the Donetsk region. In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled enemy attacks in the areas of Novodarivka, Verbove, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, carry out offensive (assault) actions on the Bakhmut front, inflict losses on enemy occupation forces in personnel and equipment, consolidate their positions on captured lines, and wear down the enemy.
In the area of responsibility of the operational-strategic group Odesa in the Kherson direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct counter-battery warfare, destroy depots, and successfully strike at the enemy's rear areas.
Enemy losses
During the past day, the aviation of the Defense Forces conducted 13 strikes on areas where the enemy's personnel, equipment, and military vehicles were concentrated.
Units of the missile forces struck a command point, three areas with personnel, equipment, and military vehicle concentrations, ten artillery units, and a stockpile of enemy ammunition.
