Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of September 17
The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct defense operations in the east and south of Ukraine, offensive operations in the Melitopol direction, and offensive actions in the Bakhmut direction. Over the past day, there have been more than 30 combat clashes, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
Today, the Russian Federation launched aviation and missile strikes against Ukraine. Information about the consequences of this terrorist attack is currently being clarified.
The enemy launched 8 missile strikes and 57 aviation strikes, carrying out more than 30 artillery attacks from rocket artillery systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. Also, the peaceful population of the city of Kharkiv suffered from cynical missile strikes.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, there are unfortunately casualties and injuries among the civilian population. More than 15 private residential buildings have been destroyed, and a lyceum and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.
Aerial strikes were carried out on the settlements of Stepok in the Sumy region; Mala Vovcha, Pletenivka, Synkivka, and Kopanky in the Kharkiv region; Novoiehorivka, Nevske in the Luhansk region; Serebryanka, Spirne, Klishchiivka, Avdiivka, Severne, Krasnohorivka, Prechystivka, Novomykhailivka, Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region; Svitla Dolyna, Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Approximately 100 populated areas in Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions came under artillery fire.
Frontline situation
In the area of responsibility of the North operational-strategic group in the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy continues to maintain troops covering the state border. They conduct active sabotage activities in border areas to prevent the transfer of our troops to threatened directions and increase the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group in the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces successfully repelled 13 enemy attacks in the Klishchiivka area of the Donetsk region. The enemy unsuccessfully attempted to break through the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of Kurdiumivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
As a result of offensive actions, the Defense Forces achieved success in the Klishchiivka area of the Donetsk region, pushing the enemy out of occupied positions.
In the area of responsibility of the Tavria operational-strategic group in the Maryinka direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the Maryinka area of the Donetsk region. Over the past day, the enemy made 11 unsuccessful attempts to dislodge our units from their positions in the areas of Severne, Rivnopillia, Donetsk region, and Novodarivka, Zaporizhzhia region, resulting in significant losses for the occupiers in both personnel and equipment.
At the same time, on the Avdiivka, Maryinka, and Shakhtarsk directions, the defense forces maintain the initiative, pressure the enemy, conduct assault actions, and reclaim our land.
In the Melitopol direction, our soldiers continue the offensive operation, causing significant losses to the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, forcing the enemy to withdraw from their positions.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group in the Kherson direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to conduct counter-battery warfare, destroy supply depots, and successfully strike at the enemy's rear areas.
Enemy losses
During the day, the Defense Forces' aviation launched 2 strikes on command posts, 12 strikes on areas with personnel and military equipment concentration, and 5 strikes on enemy anti-aircraft missile complexes.
Rocket troops units struck 3 enemy anti-aircraft missile complexes Buk-M1 and 5 enemy artillery systems.
