Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 31

As of 10 PM on January 31, Ukrainian forces reported 303 combat engagements across the front since the start of the day, with the Pokrovsk, Huliaipole, and Kostiantynivka directions seeing the heaviest fighting, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
The Russian military carried out 38 airstrikes, dropping 119 guided bombs. They also deployed 2,510 kamikaze drones and conducted 2,437 attacks on Ukrainian positions and civilian settlements.
Frontline situations
Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions: Ukrainian troops repelled one enemy attack, while Russian forces carried out 72 artillery strikes, including two using multiple rocket launchers.
Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction: Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Vovchansk, Starytsia, Prylipka, and toward the settlements of Hrafske, Vilcha, Vovchanski Khutory, Kolodiazne, and Fyholivka. Ukrainian units repelled 19 attacks, with five clashes ongoing.
Kupiansk direction: Ukrainian forces repelled 12 attacks near the settlements of Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Kurylivka, Novoosynove, Novoplatonivka, and Hlushkivka.
Lyman direction: Ukrainian troops halted 23 attacks near the settlements of Drobysheve, Serednie, Novoselivka, Zarichne, and toward the settlements of Stavky, Novoserhiivka, Shyikivka, Stepove, and Dibrova, with one engagement ongoing.
Sloviansk direction: Eight Russian assaults were repelled near the settlements of Yampil, Dronivka, and toward the settlements of Zakitne, Rai-Oleksandrivka, Platonivka, and Riznykivka. Four engagements are still ongoing.
Kramatorsk direction: The enemy made four attacks near the settlements of Chasiv Yar and Orikhovo-Vasylivka, with three clashes continuing.
Kostiantynivka direction: Russian forces launched 38 assaults near the settlements of Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, Kleban-Byk, and toward the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Mykolaipillia, Stepanivka, Novopavlivka, and Sofiivka.
Pokrovsk direction: Russians carried out 68 attacks, attempting to advance near the settlements of Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and toward the settlements of Kucheriv Yar, Bilytske, Hryshyne, Novopidhorodne, Muravka, Novopavlivka, and Ivanivka. Fighting continues in several areas.
The report states that according to preliminary estimates, Ukrainian troops liquidated 106 enemy soldiers and wounded 26, destroyed 32 drones, seven vehicles, three tanks, six other vehicles, and ten enemy personnel fortifications.
Oleksandrivka direction: Ukrainian defense forces repelled nine attacks near the settlement of Verbove and toward the settlements of Oleksandrohrad, Danylivka, Vyshneve, and Nove Zaporizhzhia. Russians launched airstrikes on the settlements of Prosiana, Novoselivka, and Malomykhailivka.
Huliaipole direction: The enemy made 42 attacks near the settlements of Huliaipole, Myrne, Solodke, and toward the settlements of Dobropillia, Varvarivka, Zaliznychne, Sviatopetrivka, Zelene, and Staroukrainka, with some fighting ongoing. Russian aviation struck the settlements of Verkhnia Tersa, Zaliznychne, and Ternuvate.
Orikhiv direction: Russian forces carried out three attacks near the settlements of Stepnohirsk and Plavni; Russian airstrikes hit the settlements of Shevchenkivske, Vilniansk, and Komyshuvakha.
Prydniprovskyi direction: No enemy's offensive activity reported.
Additional frontline developments
Earlier, Ukraine's 7th Corps of the Ukrainian Assault Forces reported that Russian forces conducted a mechanized assault on Hryshyne in the Pokrovsk direction. Ukrainian defenders repelled the attack, inflicting losses on enemy personnel and armored vehicles, though fighting continued.
Ukrainian intelligence also reported that Russian troops are morally exhausted due to constant strikes by Ukrainian forces, failed assaults, and heavy casualties, prompting some to use drugs to cope.
