As of 10 PM on January 21, a total of 140 combat engagements occurred along the front line since the start of the day. The heaviest fighting was recorded in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Enemy attacks

On January 21, Russian forces carried out two missile and 49 air strikes, using two missiles and dropping 102 guided aerial bombs. They also deployed 4,455 kamikaze drones and made 2,864 shelling attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.

Frontline situation

Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions: The enemy launched 58 attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements since the start of the day.

Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction: The Russian army attacked Ukrainian positions seven times near Dvorichanske settlement and toward the settlements of Izbytske, Hrafske, Kruhle, and Kutkivka.

Kupiansk direction: The enemy conducted eight offensive actions toward the settlements of Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Kurylivka, and Bohuslavka.

Lyman direction: Russian troops attacked the Ukrainian defenders' positions six times near the settlements of Novomykhailivka, Drobysheve, and Yampil, as well as toward Lyman and Novoserhiivka settlements.

Sloviansk direction: Ukrainian forces repelled two enemy assaults, with Russians attempting to advance near the settlement of Dronivka.

Kramatorsk direction: Ukrainian units repelled an enemy attack near Stupochky settlement.

Kostiantynivka direction: Russian forces launched ten assaults on Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Sofiivka, and toward Kostiantynivka and Ivanopillia settlements.

Pokrovsk direction: Russian troops attempted to advance on Ukrainian positions 33 times since the start of the day. Attacks were reported near the settlements of Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and toward Bilytske, Serhiivka, and Novopidhornie. Fighting is still ongoing in four locations.

“According to preliminary data, 79 Russian troops were neutralized in this direction today, including 45 killed. Ukrainian forces also destroyed one artillery system, eight vehicles, four quad bikes, 58 unmanned aerial vehicles, one electronic warfare system, and four enemy antennas. In addition, Ukrainian defenders damaged another artillery system, a radar station, seven vehicles, three UAV control points, and nine enemy personnel shelters,” the General Staff reports.

Oleksandrivka direction: Russian forces made five attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses near the settlements of Zlahoda and Yehorivka, and toward Nove Zaporizhzhia. The enemy's guided aerial bomb strikes hit Velykomykhailivka and Ternuvate settlements.

Huliaipole direction: The enemy attacked Ukrainian positions 31 times near the settlements of Huliaipole, Solodke, and toward Dobropillia, Zelene, Pryluky, Varvarivka, and Sviatopetrivka settlements. Two clashes are still ongoing. Russians launched air strikes with guided aerial bombs on the settlements of Verkhniа Tersa, Zaliznychne, and Vozdvyzhivka.

Orikhiv direction: No combat engagements have been recorded so far, although enemy air strikes hit the settlements of Yuliivka and Rozumivka.

Prydniprovskyi direction: Russian forces made two unsuccessful attempts to improve their positions.

No significant changes were reported in other directions.

Russian losses

Russia continues to suffer daily losses in its war against Ukraine. Over the past day alone, from January 20 to 21, Russian forces lost 1,170 personnel.

Ukrainian Defense Forces also destroyed eight tanks, 70 artillery systems, and 1,019 enemy drones.

Overall, total Russian military losses since the start of the full-scale invasion have exceeded 1.2 million troops.
