Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 18

Ukrainian defense forces successfully repelled 126 attacks by Russian forces over the past day, with the heaviest fighting reported in the Pokrovsk, Huliaipole, and Kostiantynivka directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As of 10 PM on January 18, Ukraine's troops continue actively resisting enemy attempts to advance into Ukrainian territory, striking Russian forces with effective fire.
During the day, 126 combat engagements occurred. The Russian army carried out 78 airstrikes using 199 aerial guided bombs, deployed 5,355 kamikaze drones, and fired 2,985 times at Ukrainian positions and populated areas.
Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions: The enemy conducted one attack in each area, carried out one airstrike, and fired 87 times, including one from a multiple rocket launcher.
Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction: Russian troops made 10 attacks near the settlements of Vovchansk, Starytsia, Hrafske, Nesterne, and Kruhle, with two clashes ongoing.
Kupiansk direction: Russians made five attempts to push back Ukrainian units near the settlements of Pishchane, Kurylivka, Petropavlivka, and Borivska Andriivka.
Lyman direction: Ukrainian forces repelled four assault actions near the settlements of Yampil, Stavky, and Oleksandrivka; one clash is ongoing.
Sloviansk direction: The enemy made three attacks near Pazeno and Rai-Oleksandrivka settlements, with no offensive actions in the Kramatorsk direction.
Kostiantynivka direction: 15 combat engagements took place near the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Shcherbynivka, and others.
Pokrovsk direction: Russian military conducted 39 attacks, with 106 Russian troops eliminated (64 permanently), along with significant equipment and drones destroyed.
Oleksandrivka direction: Ukrainian units repelled four attacks; the settlement of Khvyli suffered an enemy airstrike.
Huliaipole direction: 16 clashes occurred, with two ongoing. Russians made airstrikes at the settlements of Huliaipole, Vozdvyzhivka, Verkhnia Tersa, Zaliznychne, and Dolynka.
Orikhiv direction: The enemy made two attempts to break through the defense line near the Plavni settlement and launched airstrikes at the settlements of Zhovta Krucha and Tavriiske.
Prydniprovskyi direction: No enemy offensive actions were reported. Other directions saw no major changes.
Compared to yesterday evening, the intensity of fighting increased (117 combat engagements were reported yesterday).
Russian losses in Ukraine
According to the General Staff, total Russian troop losses are approaching 1,225,590 personnel.
In the past 24 hours of January 17, Ukrainian forces have eliminated over 1,100 Russian troops.
In addition to personnel losses, Russia has suffered significant equipment losses: since the start of the full-scale war, Ukrainian defense forces destroyed 11,569 tanks, 23,914 armored combat vehicles, 36,261 artillery systems, and 1,615 multiple rocket launchers.
