Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of September 5

Since the start of September 5, there have been 122 combat engagements on the frontlines, with the most intense fighting reported in the Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka, and Lyman directions, according to the Ukrainian General Staff.
Russian army attacks
Russian forces carried out two missile strikes and 54 air strikes, using six missiles and dropping 79 guided aerial bombs.
In addition, they deployed 1,970 kamikaze drones and conducted 3,565 shellings of Ukrainian positions and populated areas.
Frontline situation
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 5 enemy assault actions. In addition, the enemy carried out 11 airstrikes, dropping 29 guided bombs, and conducted 169 shellings of our troops’ positions and populated areas, including four with multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Russian forces assaulted Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk 5 times.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy advanced in the areas of Kupiansk, Petropavlivka, and Kolisnykivka. Ukrainian defenders stopped six enemy attacks.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops attacked Defense Forces’ positions 15 times near Andriivka, Druzhliubivka, Kolodiazi, Drobysheve, and toward Olhivka and Shandryholove.
In the Siversk direction, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 12 enemy assault actions, as the adversary attempted to advance near Hryhorivka, Serebrianka, Dronivka, Fedorivka, Vyimka, and in the direction of Dibrova.
Two enemy attacks were repelled by defenders in the Stupochky area in the Kramatorsk direction.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces launched 11 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Pleshchiivka, Rusynyi Yar, and Poltavka. The Defense Forces stopped all enemy attacks.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, the Russian army attempted 38 times to advance on Ukrainian positions. The enemy attacked in the areas of Shakhove, Nikanorivka, Rodynske, Novoekonomichne, Mayak, Rubizhne, Sukhy Yar, Shevchenko, Promin, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Dachne, and in the directions of Filiya and Novopavlivka.
"According to preliminary data, on September 5, 132 Russian soldiers were neutralized in this direction, of whom 80 were permanently lost," the General Staff reported.
Ukrainian forces also destroyed nine vehicles, 19 unmanned aerial vehicles, and four units of special equipment; one UAV control point and two enemy artillery pieces were damaged.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attempted 22 times to break through the Ukrainian defense in the areas of Zelenyi Hai, Filiya, Piddubne, Oleksandrohrad, Voskresenka, Temyrivka, Shevchenko, Maliivka, and Komyshuvakha.
In the Orikhiv direction, the Defense Forces repelled one enemy attack toward Stepnohirsk. The enemy carried out an airstrike on the settlement of Novoadrivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian forces repelled three enemy attacks. Lviv was struck by unguided air-launched missiles.
Earlier, analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that on September 4, Russian troops made slight advances in the north of the Sumy region, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine advanced on key Kupiansk and Pokrovsk directions.
Russian forces failed to capture Krasnyi Lyman (northeast of Pokrovsk). They are striking Ukrainian ground supply lines and facing logistical issues, which force them to use individual soldiers to deliver ammunition to front-line positions.
It was recently reported that Ukrainian defenders managed to liberate the settlement of Novoekonomichne from Russian soldiers. It is located near Pokrovsk.
However, the Russian military command has set a new task for the soldiers - to capture three cities in the Donetsk region during the autumn: Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, and Dobropillia.
