Since the beginning of May 4, by evening, there have already been 201 combat engagements at the front. The hottest directions remain the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka directions, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The military command updated the operational situation as of 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time on May 4.

Russian shelling

It is reported that during the day, Russian forces carried out one missile strike and 70 airstrikes, using 1 missile and 116 guided aerial bombs (FABs) for the attacks

Additionally, the invaders deployed 779 kamikaze drones and conducted 4,062 shellings of Ukrainian Armed Forces positions and populated areas.

Frontline situation

The General Staff emphasized that Ukraine’s Defense Forces are firmly repelling the enemy’s attempts to advance deeper into our territory, inflicting effective fire damage and wearing them down along the entire front line.

In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces attempted to advance four times near Vovchansk, Stroivka, and Tykhe. The enemy also carried out airstrikes on the areas of Zakharivka, Rubizhne, and Vovchansk.

In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian army attacked Ukrainian positions near Holubivka, Petropavlivka, and in the direction of Pishchane, Hlushkivka, and Novosynove. The Defense Forces repelled four enemy attacks, and three combat engagements are still ongoing.

In the Lyman direction, the enemy launched 22 attacks on Ukrainian positions near the settlements of Nove, Kopanky, Tverdokhlibove, Kolodiazi, and toward Zelena Dolyna, Lypove, Olhivka, Lypove, and Ridkodub. One battle is still ongoing.

In the Siversk direction, there were three combat engagements toward Hryhorivka and Verkhniokamianske. The General Staff noted that two enemy attempts to advance were successfully repelled, while one battle is still ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk direction, one combat engagement continues near Stupochky. Ukrainian defenders successfully stopped nine enemy assaults toward Maiske, Bila Hora, and near Chasiv Yar.

In the Toretsk direction, the Russian army attacked Ukrainian positions 14 times, focusing their efforts near Toretsk, Druzhba, and toward Diliivka. Ukraine’s Defense Forces successfully repelled all Russian attempts to advance.

In the Pokrovsk direction, enemy units attempted to break through the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ defenses toward the settlements of Hnativka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Novoserhiivka, Stara Mykolaivka, Nova Poltavka, Oleksiivka, Bahatyr, and in the areas of Malynivka, Dachenske, Zvirove, Novooleksandrivka, Udachne, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Shevchenko, Kotliarivka, Troitske, Andriivka, and Bohdanivka.

“The Defense Forces are holding back the enemy’s advance and have repelled 70 enemy attacks; 12 combat engagements are still ongoing,” the General Staff reported.

In this direction, the Russian army also launched guided bomb (FAB) airstrikes on the areas of Pokrovsk, Sukhyi Yar, Zoria, Leonidivka, Druzhkivka, Rusyn Yar, Malynivka, Udachne, Novopavlivka, Zelenyi Kut, and Novoukrainka.

“The enemy is suffering significant losses— in this direction today, Ukrainian soldiers have neutralized 177 Russian soldiers, 103 of them irrecoverably. Additionally, three vehicles, three UAVs, one motorcycle, and one enemy armored combat vehicle were destroyed,” the military command reported.

In the Novopavlivka direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian Armed Forces positions 40 times near the settlements of Kostiantynopil, Rivnopil, Novopil, Novosilka, and Pryvilne, as well as toward Zelene Pole, Shevchenko, and Bahatyr. Six enemy assaults are still ongoing. The Russian army also carried out airstrikes in the areas of Novopil, Novodarivka, Novoukrainka, Zelenyi Kut, Bahatyr, and Zelene Pole.

In the Huliaipole direction, Russian forces, supported by aviation, attacked Ukrainian positions near Vysoke five times. At the same time, the enemy launched airstrikes on Huliaipole itself.

In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three enemy attacks near Novoandriivka, Pyatykhatky, and Stepove. The Russian forces launched guided bomb (FAB) airstrikes on the Orikhiv area.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian forces carried out airstrikes on the areas of the settlements of Vesele, Beryslav, and Burhunka.

In the Kursk direction, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled 20 enemy attacks, with two battles still ongoing.

Earlier, it was reported that the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the command post of Russian motorized rifle troops in the Bakhmut area. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this strike had an impact on the fighting in the Pokrovsk direction.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, recently noted an increase in the intensity of battles at the front, despite the Kremlin's announcement of a so-called ceasefire on May 9.
