Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of February 23
As of 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 47 combat engagements have taken place at the front since the beginning of the day. Russian invaders continued to try to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders but suffered significant losses, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
Russian shelling
Today, border settlements continue to suffer from shelling from the territory of Russia. In particular:
- Bratenytsia, Velyka Pysarivka, Chernatske, Ulanove, Kucherivka, Studenok, Stepok, Shalyhine, Sydorivka, Simeikyne in Sumy region;
- Lemishchyne in Kharkiv region.
The situation at the frontlines
In the Kharkiv direction, the Russians attacked once in the area of Vovchansk, the battle is currently over.
In the Kupiansk direction, they attempted to advance near Zahryzove and were repelled.
In the Lyman direction, the invading army attacked nine times near the settlements of Novoyehorivka, Novoliubivka, Yampolivka, and Kuzmyne, and in the direction of Nove, Cherneshchyna, Ukrainian defenders have already repelled six enemy attacks, the fighting continues. Sloviansk came under an air strike.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops attacked Rai-Oleksandrivka with an air strike.
In the Toretsk direction, the Russians attacked eight times near Krymske and Toretsk in total today, four engagements are ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, the occupants have made 11 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from their positions near the settlements of Promin, Kotlyne, Andriivka, Bohdanivka, and Ulakly. The defense forces are holding back the enemy's onslaught and repelled 10 attacks, one firefight is still ongoing. Russia's losses are being clarified.
Today, in the Novopavlivka direction, the Russian army attacked seven times near the settlements of Kostiantynopil and Burlatske, one battle is still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, the Russians attacked Huliaipole and Zelene Pole with anti-aircraft guns.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled an attack near Stepove. Kamianske was attacked by unguided aerial missiles.
In the Siversk, Kramatorsk, and Prydniprovsky directions, Russia did not conduct any active offensives.
In the operational zone in the Kursk region, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled four attacks by the Russian military over the past day, and five more battles are ongoing. The enemy carried out 17 air strikes, dropped 27 guided bombs, and fired more than 250 times, including seven times from multiple launch rocket systems.
The situation in other frontline areas did not change significantly.
Over the previous day, the Russian army lost 1180 militants at the front. The Armed Forces also destroyed 54 artillery systems, 91 vehicles, and 117 UAVs.
