Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of February 2
As of 4 p.m. on February 2, 52 combat engagements took place at the front since the beginning of the day. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding the line and disrupting the adversary's plans, while the Russians continue to focus their efforts on the Pokrovsk and Kupiansk directions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
Russia's shelling
Today, the border towns and villages of our country continue to suffer from Russian artillery shelling. Today, the following localities were affected: Oleksandrivka, Chernihiv region; Stepok, Ponomarenky, Popivka, Gorky, Riasne, Progres, Slavhorod, Turia, Bachivsk, Bobylivka, Sumy region. Oleksandrivka in Sumy region and Hremiachka in Chernihiv region came under air strikes.
The situation at the frontlines
In the Kupiansk direction, the Russians have made 12 attempts to advance to Ukrainian positions in the areas of Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Stepova Novoselivka, Zahryzove, and Lozova since the beginning of the day. Ukrainian defenders repelled five attacks, seven combat engagements are ongoing.
The aggressor attacked our troops' positions six times in the Lyman direction near Novoyehorivka, Makiivka, Yampolivka, and in the direction of Serebrianka. One firefight is currently underway.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled one attack by the Russian army near Ivan-Dariivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, one firefight continues in the area of Chasiv Yar.
In the Toretsk direction, Russians tried to advance twice in the areas of Toretsk and Krymske.
The Russian troops are still active in the Pokrovsk direction. Twenty-five times today, clashes of varying intensity started here. Ukrainian troops are repelling Russian attacks in the areas of Zelene Pole, Tarasivka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Kotliarivka, Oleksiivka, Dachne, and Ulakly. Six more firefights are currently underway.
The Russian forces tried to break through in the direction of Kostiantynopil in the Novopavlivka direction once but were stopped by Ukrainian defenders.
In the Huliaipole direction, the Russian forces launched an air strike near Novopil.
They have not conducted any active operations in the Kharkiv, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovskyi directions since the beginning of the day.
In the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled two Russian attacks, and two more combat engagements are ongoing. In addition, the Russians launched three air strikes using four guided bombs.
“Ukrainian troops are depleting the enemy along the entire combat line and in the rear,” the General Staff summarized.
Over the previous day, from February 1 to February 2, the Russian army lost 1320 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also destroyed 45 artillery systems, 80 vehicles, and 99 tactical UAVs.
