Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 3

There were 138 combat clashes at the front over the past day, January 2, with the Russian forces most actively attacking in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
"Over the past day, the aviation, missile forces, and artillery of the Defense Forces hit five areas of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment concentration, two command posts, and three other important enemy facilities," the General Staff stated.
Situation by directions
- Kharkiv Direction: Russian forces attacked twice in the area of Vovchansk.
- Kupiansk direction: Four enemy attacks were recorded near Zapadne, Dvorichna, and Kruhliakivka.
- Kramatorsk direction: Ukrainian defenders repelled four Russian attacks in the areas of Chasiv Yar and Stupochky.
- Toretsk direction: Russian forces attempted to advance six times near Toretsk, New York, and Shcherbynivka.
- Pokrovsk direction: Ukraine's Defense Forces stopped 38 offensive actions by the aggressor in the areas of Myroliubivka, Lysivka, Novyi Trud, Pishchane, Shevchenko, Uspenivka, Solone, and Novovasylivka.
- Kurakhove direction: Russian troops launched 27 attacks, with the most intense efforts to advance near Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Shevchenko, Dachne, and Kurakhove.
- Vremivka direction: The enemy conducted 24 assaults in the areas of Yantarne, Vremivka, Velyka Novosilka, as well as toward Konstyantynopol, Rozlyv, and Novosilka.
- Orikhiv direction: Ukrainian forces repelled two Russian attacks near Novoandriivka.
- Prydniprovsk direction: The Russian army attacked three times.
- Kursk region: Ten combat clashes occurred in this area.
Russian losses in war
Since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost over 793,000 military personnel. Over the past day alone, the losses amounted to 1,080 soldiers. Furthermore, Ukraine's Defense Forces destroyed:
- 1 tank;
- 14 armored combat vehicles;
- 3 artillery systems.
