Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of November 16

As of 4 p.m. Kyiv time, November 16, 75 combat engagements were registered in the frontline since the beginning of the day. Russian troops are most active in the Kurakhove and Pokrovsk sectors, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Ukraine's General Staff said that today the border areas of the Sumy region continue to suffer from Russian artillery shelling. Russia struck Oleksandrivka, Hrabovske, Pavlivka, Tymofiivka, Zhuravka, Volfyne, Velyka Pysarivka, Khrinivka and Basivka. Mazenivka and Novenke came under Russian air strikes.
Russia also launched 10 attacks on its own territory. As of now, 11 UAVs struck the Kursk region.
Sectors
In the Kharkiv sector, Russians attempted 4 offensives near Vovchansk and Strilecha, 2 of which were repelled.
Russia attacked Ukrainian positions in the KupIansk sector 8 times. Ukrainian defenders repelled Russian assaults near Pishchane, Kolisnykivka, Kruhliakivka, and Zahryzove.
In the Lyman sector, Russian units continue to attack in the areas of Hrekivka, Cherneshchyna, Tverdokhlibove, and Terny. Since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian troops have repelled 6 out of 7 Russian attacks in this area. Russians launched air strikes in the vicinity of Borova, Ivanivka, and Dronivka.
In the Siversk and Kramatorsk sectors, Russia did not conduct any offensive actions but conducted air strikes in the vicinity of Kreminna and Khromivka.
Russia conducted 2 attacks in the Toretsk sector so far. Russians attacked near Toretsk and Shcherbynivka. 1 Russian attack has already been stopped. Russian aircraft bombed the areas of Ivanopillia, Kostiantynivka and Svitlodarsk.
In the Pokrovsk sector, since the beginning of the day, Russians have already carried out 14 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Myroliubivka, Lysivka, Promin, Krutyi Yar, Petrivka, Novooleksiivka and Pustynka. Ukrainian Defense Forces have repelled half of Russia's attacks.
The situation is the most difficult in the Kurakhove sector, where 16 combat engagements have taken place so far. Russian invaders are most actively trying to advance in the areas of Nova Illinka, Berestky, Novoselydivka, Voznesenka, Sontsivka, Novodmytrivka, Zoria, Kurakhove, Dalne, Katerynivka and Antonivka. 11 battles are still ongoing.
In the Vremivka sector, Russian invaders attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops 7 times near Romanivka, Sukhi Yaly, Novodarivka, and Rivne, 3 combat engagements are still ongoing. The enemy was firing with unguided aerial rockets and guided aerial bombs in the area of Velyka Novosilka.
Russia did not conduct any offensive actions at the Huliaipole and Orikhiv sectors.
Russia tried to attack the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the Prydniprovskyi sector twice without success. Russians launched an air strike with unguided aerial rockets at Olhivka.
No significant changes were observed in other sectors.
Over the previous day, November 15, 170 combat engagements took place at the frontline. The Ukrainian military repelled 30 Russian attacks in the Kursk region.
