Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of October 22

As of 10:00 p.m. on October 22 (Kyiv time), 122 combat engagements have been recorded on the frontlines since the start of the day. The enemy focuses its main offensive efforts in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions, according to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Enemy shelling
The General Staff reported that today, the enemy carried out 70 airstrikes, dropping 122 guided bombs. Additionally, Russian forces used 718 kamikaze drones and launched over 3,200 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian forces and civilian areas.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces launched four assaults on Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk and Starytsia. Two enemy attacks are ongoing.
"Today, Ukrainian defenders in the Kharkiv direction eliminated and wounded 72 Russian forces, destroyed an armored fighting vehicle, two artillery systems, 32 drones, seven vehicles, and one special piece of equipment. Additionally, two artillery systems and four enemy vehicles were damaged," the General Staff states.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 12 times. Ukrainian forces repelled nine attacks near Pishchane, Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, and Lozova. Three combat engagements are ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian defenders 14 times in the areas of Hrekivka, Novomykhailivka, Terny, and Torske. Fighting continues near Hrekivka and in the Terny area.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled the enemy's attempt to advance toward the settlement of Bondarne.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy continues to focus its main efforts, where today, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 40 times in the areas of Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, and Selydove. Ukrainian defenders repelled 34 enemy assaults, and six combat engagements are still ongoing.
"According to preliminary estimates, today, Russian forces lost 168 soldiers killed and 197 wounded in this direction. A tank, four armored fighting vehicles, three artillery systems, six vehicles, and four motorcycles were destroyed. Ukrainian defenders also inflicted significant damage on four more artillery systems, three vehicles, and four enemy armored fighting vehicles," the General Staff reported.
In the Kurakhove direction, Russian forces have also been quite active. As of this hour, 35 enemy attacks have been recorded near Hirnyk, Novodmytrivka, Hostre, Katerynivka, and Antonivka. Ukrainian defenders stopped 21 of these. Fighting continues in 14 locations.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy launched 10 assaults today on the frontline of Ukrainian defenses in the direction of Bohoyavlenka and Velyka Novosilka. One attack is ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy attempted to advance on Ukrainian positions near Robotyne but was unsuccessful.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped four Russian attempts to attack positions.
"Today, we commend the effective combat performance of the soldiers of the 35th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrogradskyi and the 27th Rocket Artillery Brigade named after the field commander Petro Kalnyshevskyi," the General Staff concluded.
As a reminder, Russia lost 1,350 soldiers at the frontline throughout October 21-22. Since the beginning of its full-scale war against Ukraine, Russian forces have lost a total of 681,580 personnel.
