Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of October 8

At the front in Ukraine, there have already been 142 combat clashes since the start of the day. The most intense situation is reported in the Kurakhove direction, while in Toretsk, Russian forces have actively used aviation in their attacks, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Military command reported operational data on the situation at the front as of 10:00 PM Kyiv time on Tuesday, October 8.
Russian shelling
Since the start of the day, the enemy has carried out 67 airstrikes on Ukrainian territory, dropping 104 guided aerial bombs.
Additionally, Russian invaders have employed 467 kamikaze drones in their attacks and conducted over 2,520 shellings targeting the positions of Ukraine's Defense Forces and civilian settlements.
Frontline situation
The General Staff noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to resolutely repel attempts by Russian forces to advance deeper into Ukraine, delivering effective fire damage and exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.
In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian army attacked the defensive positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Vovchansk and Staritsia four times. Three confrontations ended unsuccessfully for the enemy, while one battle is ongoing.
The enemy also carried out airstrikes on the settlements of Kharkiv, Cherkaska Lozova, and Mali Prokhody, dropping seven aerial bombs on them.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces conducted assault operations 16 times in the areas of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Novoosynove, Vyshneve, Stepanova Novoselivka, Lozova, and Kruhlyakivka.
Ukrainian forces repelled 12 enemy attacks, with another four still ongoing. The areas of Bohuslavka, Zahryzove, and Berestove were targeted by airstrikes.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine 18 times near Makiivka, Hrekivka, Vyshneve, Novovodyane, Torske, Novosadove, and Dibrivka. Ukrainian soldiers repelled these assaults, although one battle is still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attacked twice near Ivanо-Darivka and Spirne.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces halted three assaults by the occupiers near Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, and Stupochky, while one battle continued near Bila Hora, with the situation under control.
The enemy dropped six aerial bombs on the areas of Kostiantynivka, Druzhkivske, and Chasiv Yar.
In the Toretsky direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian Defense Forces 12 times near Toretsk, Nelipivka, and Dylivka, with five battles still in progress.
"The Russian army actively employed aviation throughout the day, striking the areas of the settlements of Druzhba, Katerynivka, Kostiantynivka, and Toretsk," the General Staff reported.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces attempted to break through the defenses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine 37 times near the settlements of Sukha Balka, Novotoretske, Promin, Sukhyi Yar, Lysivka, Krutyi Yar, Novohrodivka, and Selydove. Currently, four attacks are still ongoing.
"The enemy is suffering significant losses - over 210 Russian soldiers were neutralized in this direction today, with 85 of them being irreversible. Additionally, a tank and an enemy automatic grenade launcher were damaged," military command reported.
In the Kurakhove direction, Russian forces attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders 39 times near Tsukuryne, Novoselidivka, Hirnyk, Maksymilianivka, Heorhiyivka, Kostiantynivka, Katerynivka, Antonivka, Kurakhivka, Izmailivka, Hostrе, Kurakhove, and Vodiane. Three battles are still ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, Russian forces conducted six assault operations near Bohoyavlenka, employing storm and bomber aviation in their attacks. Four assaults have already been repelled, and two battles are currently ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces attempted to advance near Robotyne and Novodanylivka. Ukrainian soldiers repelled two enemy assaults. The enemy also carried out airstrikes in the areas of the settlements of Lyubkove, Novopil, and Mala Tokmachka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the Russian army attacked the defensive positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine six times but suffered defeats.
The General Staff also reported that there have been no significant changes in the situation in other directions.
Earlier, Ruslan Muzychuk, the spokesperson for the National Guard of Ukraine, noted that Russian forces are trying to advance toward Toretsk from its southern and southeastern outskirts. The enemy is also attempting to assault the areas of New York and Nelipivka.
