Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of September 23
Over the past day, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 162 Russian combat engagements in various sectors. The most active hostilities took place in the Kharkiv and Kupiansk sectors, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russians launched 2 missile strikes using 4 missiles and carried out 67 air attacks, including the use of 99 guided aerial bombs. A total of 5,587 attacks were recorded, 167 of which were from multiple-launch rocket systems.
The most active hostilities took place in the Kharkiv and Kupiansk sectors, where Russian troops carried out 23 attacks, in particular near Vovchansk, Tykhe, Petropavlivka, and other localities. Ukrainian troops repelled 13 Russian attacks in the Lyman sector and 12 breakthrough attempts in the Kramatorsk sector.
The highest Russian activity was recorded in the Pokrovsk sector, where the Russian troops carried out 35 attacks. Russia also continues attempts to break through in the Kurakhove, Vremivka, and Orikhiv directions.
Ukrainian aviation, missile troops, and artillery conducted eight strikes on Russian personnel and equipment, destroying two artillery systems, one air defense system, and a Russian control center.
The operational situation on the Volyn and Polissia directions remains stable, with no signs of an offensive being prepared. On the borders with Chernihiv and Sumy regions, Russia intensified shelling of border settlements, using aviation and artillery.
Volodymyr Cherniak, an officer of the Rubizh brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, said that the aggregate plant in Vovchansk created serious difficulties for the Russian occupiers. He noted that positive news for Ukraine in this area can be expected soon.
In addition, according to Land Forces Commander Oleksandr Pavliuk, over the past week, the Ukrainian Armed Forces eliminated 8,620 Russian soldiers and destroyed 224 artillery systems and 159 armored combat vehicles.
