Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of September 8
In the Pokrovsk sector, 29 enemy offensives and assaults have been repelled since the beginning of the day, and seven more combat engagements are ongoing. Ukrainian troops are taking measures to hold the designated lines, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the day, 148 combat engagements took place, the enemy launched 60 air strikes using 79 combat aircraft, 473 strikes with kamikaze drones and fired 2768 times at Ukrainian troops' positions and localities using various types of weapons.
In the Kharkiv direction, the invaders launched three attacks near Vovchansk during the day. Ukrainian Defense Forces units successfully repelled two of the enemy's assaults, and another firefight is ongoing. According to preliminary information, since the beginning of the day, enemy losses amounted to 59 killed and wounded, two vehicles and four units of special equipment, 37 UAVs were destroyed, and two artillery systems, a tank, and three enemy armored combat vehicles were damaged.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled 13 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Synkivka, Stepova Novosilka, Hlushkivka, Lozova, Myasozharivka, and Stelmakhivka.
The enemy attacked 12 times in the Lyman direction, trying to advance towards Nevske, Novosadove, Torske, Dibrova, and Cherneshchyna, and two firefights are currently underway.
In the Siversk direction, our defenders repelled five enemy assaults in the areas of Verkhnekamianske, Spirne, and Hryhorivka. Currently, fighting is still ongoing in three locations.
Eight combat engagements took place in the Kramatorsk direction. Russians were active in the area of Andriivka, Mayske, Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, Predtechyn, and Klishchiivka. Seven of the enemy's attempts to push our units back proved to be in vain, and one attack is ongoing. The situation is under control.
With the support of aviation, the enemy tried to break into our defense in the Toretsk direction 17 times. During the day, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders near the settlements of Pivnichne, Zalizne, Niu York, Toretsk, Nelipivka, and Druzhba. Our defenders repelled 13 attacks, four attacks are still ongoing.

According to preliminary data, the enemy lost 314 people (including the wounded), one was taken prisoner, and Ukrainian troops destroyed ten vehicles and one UAV. In addition, two howitzers, two tanks, one vehicle, and one mortar were destroyed.
In the Kurakhove direction, there are 25 combat engagements as of this time of day. The invaders remain active, trying to advance in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Dolynivka, Ukrayinska, Heorhiivka, and Kostiantynivka. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 20 attacks, five attacks are still ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, two firefights took place in the direction of Vodiane.
In the Orikhiv direction, our troops repelled two enemy attacks near Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne, the enemy was not successful.
A September 7 report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said that Russians captured the village of Synkivka during offensive operations along the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna line. They also advanced near Pokrovsk, in the Donetsk sector, and on the islands in the Dnipro Delta in the Kherson region.
On September 5, Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky said that the Russian army's advance near Pokrovsk had stopped in recent days.
On September 7, Forbes wrote that the Ukrainian Defense Forces were conducting counterattacks near Pokrovsk. Reinforcements could help the Ukrainian Armed Forces reverse the trend of the enemy approaching the city.
