Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 24

As of 16:00 on August 24, 96 combat engagements were registered in the frontline since the beginning of the day. 39 of them took place in the Pokrovsk sector, where the enemy had been concentrating its efforts for several days, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy shelling
Russians continue to shell Ukraine. In particular, today the areas of Porozok, Shalyhyne, Hlukhiv, Slavgorod, Mezenivka, Velyka Pysarivka, Dmytrivka, Iskryskivshchyna, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Bachivsk, Vilna Sloboda, Striletska Pushkarka, Ponomarenky, Seredyna-Buda, Bleshnia, Mykhailivske, Karpovychi, Obody, Novovasylivka, Stepne, Oleksandrivka were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In addition, the Russians conducted air strikes with glide bombs, in particular, on Yunakivka, Bilovody, Druzhba, Richky, Velyka Pysarivka, Kindrativka, Pervomaiske, Bilopillia, Katerynivka, Pozhnia, Mykytivka, Khodyne, Buniakyne, Slavhorod, Uhroydy, Porozk, Pushkari, Prohres, Hremyach, Karpovychi.
Situation at the frontlines
In the Kharkiv direction, three firefights took place near Hlyboke and Vovchansk, where two battles are currently underway.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted six offensives towards Novoselivka, Stelmakhivka, and Synkivka. Two attacks are currently underway.
Russians also launched unguided missiles in the area of Petropavlivka.
Six combat engagements took place in the Lyman direction. The enemy stormed Ukrainian positions near Druzheliubivka, Makiivka, and Novosadove. Five battles were completed, and one is still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped two enemy assaults near Spirne and Vyimka. The Defense Forces are currently repelling an attack near Verkhnekamianske.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the invading army was advancing towards Stupochky, Chasiv Yar, and Kalynivka. A total of 12 combat engagements took place, three of which are still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, nine firefights took place near Diliyivka, Toretsk, Nelipivka, and Niu York. One battle is currently underway. In addition, the invaders launched three air strikes on Diliyivka and Druzhba.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the Russians conducted 39 assault operations in the areas of Vozdvyzhenka, Zelene Pole, Myroliubivka, Hrodivka, Kalynove, Novohrodivka, and Ptyche. The Ukrainian defense forces are holding back the onslaught of Russian troops and repelled 31 attacks, eight battles are still ongoing. The enemy's losses in this area are being clarified.
The enemy also conducted two air strikes, dropping a glide bomb on Memryk and launching missiles towards Oleksandropol.
In the Kurakhove direction, the invaders attacked 12 times near Krasnohorivka, Karlivka, Heorhiivka, and Kostiantynivka. Nine engagements were completed, and three are ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy stormed Ukrainian positions near Vuhledar, Vodiane, and Katerynivka three times without success.
In the Orikhiv direction, three firefights took place near Novoandriivka and Shcherbaky, where one battle is still ongoing. In addition, Russians launched 32 unguided missiles at Lobkove, Piatykhatky, and Novoandriivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy, using aviation, launched air strikes with glide bombs in the areas of Novotyanka, Burgunka, Tomaryne, and Zmiivka.
The situation in other frontline areas remained unchanged.
Over the past day, the Russian army lost another 1160 soldiers in the war against Ukraine. In addition, the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed 9 enemy tanks, 21 armored personnel carriers, 42 artillery systems, and other enemy equipment.
