On August 22, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continued operations in the Kursk sector and had successful actions in some areas. At the same time, Ukrainian defenders continue to restrain Russia's offensive on the frontlines in Ukraine, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russian shelling

Since the beginning of the day, Russia has launched missiles and 49 air strikes and dropped 56 guided aerial bombs. In addition, the Russian invaders launched 556 kamikaze drones and fired over 3300 times at Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.

Situation at frontlines

As of 10 p.m., 135 combat engagements were registered in the frontline over the last day.

In the Kharkiv sector, Russians stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops in the area of Vovchansk twice. Ukrainian troops also took active measures to improve the tactical situation in certain areas of the frontline.

“Today, Ukrainian defenders in the Kharkiv sector eliminated and wounded 69 Russian troops, destroyed a Russian tank, 3 artillery systems, 63 UAVs, 4 vehicles and 4 special vehicles. In addition, 7 artillery systems, an MLRS, three vehicles, and two units of Russian special equipment were damaged,” the statement says.

Russia attacked Ukrainian positions in the Kupiansk sector 14 times. Near the settlements of Stelmakhivka, Synkivka, Hlushkivka, Lozova, and Andriivka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 10 Russian attacks. The situation is tense, 4 firefights are ongoing.

In the Lyman sector, Russian invaders attacked Ukrainian defenders 11 times in the vicinity of 8 different localities. The largest number of combat engagements took place near Makiivka and Novosadove, 2 and 3 respectively.

Russia tried to force Ukrainian troops from their positions in the areas of Vyimka, Bilohorivka, and Spirne in the Siversk sector 5 times. All Russian attacks were repelled.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Ukrainian troops repelled 11 Russian attempts to advance. Russia concentrated its efforts, with the support of attack aircraft, near Chasiv Yar and Ivanivske.

In the Toretsk sector, where the Russians attacked Ukrainian positions 12 times near New York, Nelipivka, Toretsk, and Druzhba, 11 combat engagements have already been completed. The battle continues near New York.

Russia continues to focus its main efforts in the Pokrovsk sector. Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions 53 times over the last day. More than half of all combat engagements took place in the areas of Mykhailivka, Novohrodivka, and Mykolaivka.

“According to preliminary estimates, today Russia lost 122 troops in this sector in killed and 201 in wounded. 3 Russian vehicles and an artillery system were destroyed. Ukrainian defenders also inflicted significant damage to 5 more Russian artillery systems, 2 vehicles, and armored combat vehicles,” the General Staff notes.

In the Kurakhove sector, 19 Russian attacks have been recorded so far. Ukrainian defenders stopped 16 of them. Fighting continues near Karlivka. Russian invaders also tried to advance near Kostiantynivka and Krasnohorivka. They suffered losses.

In the Vremivka sector, Russia stormed the front line of Ukrainian defense 3 times today in the direction of Vuhledar and tried to advance from Volodymyrivka. Ukrainian troops fiercely stopped all Russian attacks.

In the Orikhiv, Huliaipole, and Prydniprovskyi sectors, Russian units did not conduct offensive actions.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces also marked the soldiers of the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade of he Armed Forces of Ukraine for their effective combat work.
