Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of July 21
During the day, on July 21, Russian troops actively attacked at the Kharkiv, Kupiansk, and Pokrovsk directions. The enemy is using all available forces and means to achieve its goals, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy shelling
The agency noted that today a number of settlements in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions suffered from Russian terrorist attacks. In particular, these are Ugroidy, Obyednane, Turya, Oleksandrivka, Oleksiivka, Miropillia, Liskivshchyna, Stepok, and Mohrytsia.
At the same time, the Kharkiv region is under constant fire from enemy aircraft. Today, the enemy has already dropped 7 glide bombs. They targeted the areas of Vovchansk, Lyptsi, Borshchova, and Hlyboke, and also struck Dekhtyarne with unguided aerial missiles.
Situation at the frontline
As of 16:00 on July 21, a total of 58 combat engagements took place in the frontline since the beginning of the day.
In the Kharkiv direction, Russians attempted seven times to storm the defensive lines of Ukrainian troops near Hlyboke and Vovchansk. All enemy attacks were repelled by the Defense Forces.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy actively attacked the positions of Ukrainian Armed Forces units seven times near Synkivka, Stelmakhivka, Berestove, and Andriivka, two firefights are still ongoing. Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold steadfastly the defense.
Today, in the Lyman direction, the invading army launched five attacks on Ukrainian positions near Makiivka and Terny. Three engagements ended without success for the enemy, two more are ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, near Verkhnekamianske and Vyimka, Ukrainian defenders repelled three attacks by the occupying army.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the invaders made two assaults on the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces near Andriivka. The battle is currently underway. The situation is under control.
The number of enemy attacks in the Toretsk direction increased to four. The enemy has concentrated its efforts in the area of Pivnichne, Zalizne, and Niu York, where four firefights took place, and three enemy attacks are still ongoing. The Russians are actively using aviation in this area, in particular, the areas of Pivnichne, Niu York, and Toretsk were bombed, and the enemy has already dropped 13 glide bombs.
The Pokrovsk direction witnessed the largest number of firefights. Since the beginning of the day, the Russian troops, with the support of aviation, have made 23 attempts to push the Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Progress, Novoselivka Persha, Vozdvyzhenka, Novooleksandrivka, Kalynove, and Umanske. The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and have so far repelled sixteen enemy attacks, with seven attacks still ongoing. The enemy's losses are being clarified.
Fighting continues near Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Karlivka in the Kurakhove direction. According to the updated information, four attacks of the occupation army were repelled in this area today.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy is actively using aviation, striking at the areas of Vuhledar, Katerynivka, Urozhayne, and Staromayorske.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy made three unsuccessful attempts to attack Ukrainian troops near Robotyne and in the direction of Novodanylivka. The Russian army also dropped two guided aerial bombs on Stepnohirsk.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy conducted air strikes, dropping guided aerial bombs in the areas of Tyahynyka, Tomaryne, and Burgunka in the Kherson region.
Over the past 24 hours, from July 20 to July 21, Russian losses in the war against Ukraine amounted to 1,100 soldiers. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also destroyed an air defense system, 9 tanks, 44 artillery systems, and 46 armored combat vehicles.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that in addition to Pokrovsk, the enemy was active in the Orikhiv sector the previous day. A total of 126 combat engagements were recorded on July 20.
