Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 23

Russian forces carried out 79 attacks on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the last day. The largest number of combat engagements took place in the Pokrovsk and Kupiansk directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the General Staff, the Kharkiv region is suffering from rocket and air strikes by Russian terrorists. Civilians and enterprises are suffering.
Using guided bombs, the enemy continues to level the city of Vovchansk and its outskirts. Additionally, during the day, areas of settlements such as Bilyi Kolodiaz, Derhachi, and Vesele were affected by airstrikes.
The situation in certain directions
In the Kharkiv direction, the Russian forces tried to advance four times. They are facing stiff resistance. Fighting continues near the villages of Starytsia and Tykhe. The situation is under control. The enemy's losses are being clarified.
In the Kupiansk direction, the number of offensive and assault actions of the Russian forces increased to 20. Almost half of them are still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, six enemy attacks were repelled near Torske and Terny. The Russian forces dropped two guided bombs - twice, enemy Su-34s targeted the area near Lyman.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the total number of enemy attempts to improve the tactical situation increased to eight. The situation is under control.
Nine firefights are ongoing in the Pokrovsk direction, and another 13 enemy attacks have already been repelled. The enemy continues to conduct its actions in the direction of Kalynove and Novoselivka Persha with the support of aviation. Instead, Ukrainian soldiers are hunting the enemy in the air - today a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft was destroyed.
There were 10 combat engagements in the Kurakhove direction. Fighting is ongoing in the vicinity of Krasnohorivka.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy launched an air strike in the vicinity of Huliaipole.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy unsuccessfully tried to force Ukrainian troops from the left bank of the Dnipro River seven times today.
The situation in the other directions remained unchanged.
According to the General Staff, Russia's losses in the war in Ukraine on May 22 amounted to 1330 individuals. In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 1 aircraft, 27 armored personnel carriers, 40 artillery systems, and other enemy equipment.
