Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 8

Ukrainian soldiers repelled Russian attacks on the left bank of the Dnipro River and near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region. Additionally, the soldiers damaged three enemy air defense systems, according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
During the day, 121 combat clashes were recorded. In total, the enemy delivered 59 missile strikes and 55 air strikes, as well as conducted 84 shelling attacks with reactive multiple rocket launch systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas.
Unfortunately, due to the Russian terrorist attacks, there are civilian casualties. Multistory and private houses, as well as other objects of civilian infrastructure, have suffered destruction and damage.
Situation at frontlines
In the Volyn and Polissia direction, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant changes observed in the formation of enemy offensive groupings.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske direction, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage-reconnaissance activities, fires on populated areas from Russian territory, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.
The enemy carried out air strikes in the areas of the settlements of Bilyi Kolodiaz, Staryi Saltiv, and Lukyantsi in the Kharkiv region. Artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy affected more than 10 populated areas, including Bleshnia, Mykhalchyne-Sloboda, and Mistky in the Chernihiv region; Prohres, Iskriskivschyna, Basivka, and Zapsillia in the Sumy region.
In the Kupiansk direction, our soldiers repelled 7 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Synkivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region; Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region, where the enemy tried to improve tactical positions.
Approximately 10 populated areas, including Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, Defense Forces repelled 9 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Makiivka, Nevske, Novoliubivka, and Serebrianske Forestry in the Luhansk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Nevske in the Luhansk region; Terny, Yampolivka, and Torske in the Donetsk region, suffered from artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, our soldiers repelled 21 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Andriivka, Verkhniokamianske, Novyi, Ivanivske, and Klishchivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to improve tactical positions.
Additionally, the enemy carried out air strikes in the areas of the settlements of Chasiv Yar, Druzhba, and Pivnichne in the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Orihovo-Vasylivka, Hryhorivka, and Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 35 attacks in the areas of the settlements of Novooleksandrivka, Yevhenivka, Sokil, Novopokrovske, Semenivka, Umanske, Netailove, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, attempted to dislodge our units from their occupied positions.
Additionally, the enemy carried out air strikes in the areas of the settlements of Oleksandropil, Novoselivka Persha, Karlivka, and Moskovske in the Donetsk region. Approximately 20 populated areas, including Novooleksandrivka, Sokil, Novopokrovske, and Umanske in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Paraskeviiivka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, attempted to break through our troops' defense 6 times.
Over 10 populated areas, including Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, and Heorhiivka in the Donetsk region, came under the artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders in the area of Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region 19 times. They also carried out an aviation strike in the area of the settlement of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Approximately 20 populated areas, including Bilohiria, Robotyne, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kherson direction, approximately 20 populated areas, including Krynky, Tyahynka, Kachkarivka, Kizomys, and Stanislav in the Kherson region, as well as the city of Kherson, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
Situation on the left bank of the Dnipro River
The enemy continues its intention to dislodge our units from bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
They attempted 1 unsuccessful attack on the positions of our troops in the area of the settlement of Krynky in the Kherson region.
Russian losses
During the day, the air force of the Defense Forces and missile troops struck 3 anti-aircraft defense systems, 2 artillery units, and 8 areas of enemy personnel concentration.
It is worth noting that the total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amounts to 477,430 military personnel.
