Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 29

The Ukrainian military forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, repelling Russian attacks near Zolota Nyva (the Donetsk region) and damaging the enemy's radio electronic warfare station, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
The enemy continues to ignore the laws and customs of war and uses terror tactics, strikes, and attacks both military and civilian objects. The enemy actively uses aviation and FPV-type quadrocopters and conducts assaults with the support of armored vehicles.
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult. During the day, 51 combat clashes took place. The enemy launched 6 missile strikes with S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles against the civil infrastructure of Myrnograd in the Donetsk region and Muzykivka in the Kherson region.
The enemy also carried out 64 airstrikes and launched 45 attacks from rocket salvo systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population. Residential buildings, a school and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly. There were no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Certain units of the Armed Forces of Belarus perform tasks in the border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and intelligence activities, attacks populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation and increases the density of mine and explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.
The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Velykyi Burluk and Khatne settlements of the Kharkiv region. Shelled about 40 settlements with artillery and mortars, among them Karpovychi, Hremiach of the Chernihiv region; Popivka, Stepok, Hrabovske in the Sumy region; Huriv Kozachok, Ohirtseve in the Kharkiv region.
Over 35 populated areas, including Yeline, Halahanivka, Leonivka in the Chernihiv region; Popivka, Volfyne, Veselivka in the Sumy region; Veternarne, Nesterne, Komisarove in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repulsed 7 attacks near Synkivka and east of Pischane in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break through the defenses of our troops. The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Petropavlivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region, and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region.
More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region and Kryvoshiivka in the Luhansk region.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 4 attacks in the Serebryanske forestry areas of the Luhansk region and Terny of the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defenses of our troops. The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Novoyehorivka, Bilohorivka, Serebryanske Forestry of the Luhansk region, and Rozdolivka of the Donetsk region.
Shelled more than 10 settlements with artillery and mortars, among them Nevske, Bilohorivka, Serebryanske Forestry of the Luhansk region and Serebryanka, Spirne, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 3 attacks near Ivanovsky, the Donetsk region, where the occupiers unsuccessfully tried to improve their tactical position. The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of the settlements of Chasiv Yar, Klishchiivka, New York of the Donetsk region.
More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Hryhorivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and Kurdyumivka of the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 8 attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, and another 5 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break through the defenses of our troops.
More than 15 settlements, including Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Severne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske of the Donetsk region, were hit by artillery and mortar attacks.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka of the Donetsk region. Here, the invaders unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical position 6 times. Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maksimilianivka, Pobieda, Paraskoviivka, and Novomykhailivka came under artillery and mortar fire from the occupiers.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, our defenders repulsed an enemy attack near Zolota Nyva, the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out an airstrike in the Staromayorskyi district of the Donetsk region.
More than 10 settlements, including Vodyane, Vugledar, Prechistivka, Zolota Nyva, and Staromayorske of the Donetsk region, were hit by artillery and mortar attacks.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, our defenders repulsed the attack of the invaders north of Pryiutne in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 15 settlements were hit by artillery and mortar fire, including Levadne, Hulyaipole, Charivne, Orihiv, Robotyne of the Zaporizhzhia region and Nikopol of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa operational-strategic group in the Kherson direction, Kherson, Novokairy, Sadove, and Prydniprovske of the Kherson region were subjected to enemy artillery fire. The enemy also shelled the settlements of Respublikanets, Krynky, and Ivanivka in the Kherson region with rocket salvo systems.
The enemy also carried out shelling with multiple launch rocket systems in the areas of Ivanivka, Tokarivka, and Tomyna Balka in the Kherson region.
Advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The enemy does not give up its intention to knock out the Ukrainian units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro river.
Thus, during the day, 7 unsuccessful attempts to storm the positions of our troops were made.
Losses of the enemy
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 14 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment of the enemy.
Units of the missile forces struck 2 anti-aircraft defense systems, 4 artillery systems and the enemy's electronic warfare station.
It is worth nothing that the total number of losses of the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is 383,180 soldiers.
