Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 28

In the Lyman direction, the Russian invaders tried to break through the Ukrainian military's defense, but to no avail, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult. Within the last day, 61 combat engagements took place.
The enemy also launched six missile and two air strikes and fired 51 MLRS at Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.
Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. An educational institution, private and apartment buildings, and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
Situation at the frontline
The situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remained unchanged. There are no signs of offensive groups forming. Designated units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. Russians conducted an air strike near the village of Krasny Khutir in the Chernihiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled an attack east of Pishchane in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled six attacks near Terny and Yampolivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled two attacks near Ivanivske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 16 enemy attacks near Ocheretyne, Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka and five more attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the occupants in the areas of Heorhiivka, Pobeda and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy tried to improve the tactical situation here 18 times without success.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled an attack north of Pryiutne, Zaporizhzhia region.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa Joint Forces Operation Center in the Kherson direction, the enemy shelled the regional center of the Kherson region. The enemy also fired from multiple launch rocket systems near the settlements of Novotyanka, Ivanivka, and Poniativka in the Kherson region.
Offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The enemy does not abandon its intention to drive our units out of the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, during the day, the enemy made seven unsuccessful attempts to storm the positions of Ukrainian troops.
Russian losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck six areas where enemy personnel were concentrated. Ukrainian air defense forces also destroyed one
Kh-59 guided missile.
Missile troops struck at one artillery unit and one enemy electronic warfare station.
