Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 3

In Ukraine, there have been 57 military clashes on the front line over the past day. The defense forces continue their efforts to expand the foothold on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russians attacks
In total, the enemy carried out 89 missile and 72 aviation strikes, including the use of Shahed-136/131 drones. There were 48 rocket strikes from reactive salvo systems on the positions of our troops and civilian settlements.
As a result of the Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and over 130 wounded civilians, including children. Over 100 private residential and multi-story buildings, as well as other civilian and industrial infrastructure in the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions, have suffered destruction and damage.
The aviation strikes targeted Bilohorivka and Serebrianseke Forestry Area in the Luhansk region; Avdiivka, Novomykhailivka, Hеorhiivka in the Donetsk region; Novodanylivka and Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Approximately 120 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
The frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the redeployment of our forces to threatened directions, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 attacks near Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to break through the defense of our forces.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions.
In the Bakhmut direction, our forces repelled 6 enemy attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Klyshchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to restrain the enemy, which does not cease attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Our troops hold the defense steadfastly, inflicting significant losses on the invaders.
During the past day, the Defense Forces repelled 8 enemy attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Avdiivka, and another 16 attacks in the areas of Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region. Southeast of Novobakhmutivka, our defenders improved their tactical position.
In the Maryinka and Shakhtarsk directions, the invaders did not conduct offensive (assault) actions.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack near Robotine in the Zaporizhzhia region. Near Verbovе, our troops advanced, forcing the enemy to abandon some positions.
In the Kherson direction, the Defense Forces continue efforts to expand the foothold. Despite significant losses, the occupiers persist in trying to dislodge our units from the occupied positions. During the past day, the enemy conducted 9 unsuccessful assault actions.
Enemy losses
During the past day, Ukrainian aviation conducted strikes on 12 areas of enemy personnel concentration.
Missile troops units targeted 2 areas of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment concentration, 3 anti-aircraft missile systems, 2 command posts, an artillery system, a radar system, and an enemy fuel and lubricants depot, inflicting damage.
